Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 16 Oct 2015 07:49

Thank you all . And thanks Lynda for the offer of help . I did an online shop on wed ,delivered yesterday and another last evening to get more jelly and some actimal and Complan drinks . Will be asking doc today for the ensure drinks too, he had those in hospital and enjoyed them .

Came down this morning and he had been restless because the light quilt was all bunched up and his lower legs and feet were exposed but he is sleeping and warm so is ok . He needs his catheter changed ,they were going to do it on Tuesday but he was too out of it so they didn't . Hope they will do it soon as he also had a water infection when the nurses came in then. The antibiotics he was on would also sort that out but he hasn't finished the course as wont take it .

As long as he is warm and sleeping and drinking during the day he seems comfortable .

Thanks again everyone xx

How difficult for you both, Shirley. I hope your hubby will gain a bit more strength by taking a little more sustenance as well as continuing to stay hydrated. It's good that your support network is strong. Will be thinking of you

You are doing all the right things, Shirley. Seems to be a good idea to be led by your husband in the things that he wants. There is a lot of sense in the saying "a little of what you fancy does you good". And at least you know that he is enjoying the jelly.

You are obviously doing a great job caring for hubby and I am pleased you have
support from the medical people.

It can be such a help knowing you have someone to call upon, as I know it can be scary and worrying about what to do for the best.

Share some past memories and at the end of the day, he will know how much he is loved and that you did all you could .

God Bless you both.

Shirley, you are doing a good job. Baby steps, as always. See what tomorrow brings, but it's good that the GP and district nurses are visiting as well as the Carers. Try to rest if that is at all possible. Sending gentle hugs to you right now. xxx

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 15 Oct 2015 21:46

He came home last week from hospital with cough that developed quickly into a chest infection .

He has been on antibiotics from Tuesday but at the weekend he went downhill and I had to call out the on call medics on Sunday . The doc changed his antibiotic and the district nurse came on on Monday and contacted our docs who came out to,see him and give her assestment of his condition

They have put in a nursing plan and I was told hubby is on his last journey !!!

He is a stubborn man though and the last two days he has been awake for many periods and wanting to drink . Yesterday too he wanted something more . He hasn't eaten since sat but he had had some jelly and kept it down.he refused to take his antibiotic though and i was told if he won't then don't force it

This morning though he wanted jelly and he kept it down and agreed to take the antibiotic which is in liquid form , he took some of it and then puked it up with the jelly !!!

Today though he had had another jelly , and this evening a small amount of diluted tomato soup and more jelly . Has had many feeding beakers of diluted squash in several long sips .

He has really rallied around yesterday and today which is a big step from being unresponsive on Tuesday and being told it's just a matter of time .

I know we aren't out of the woods and he is probably just going to tick over for a time and then go downhill again but we are grateful for all the time we may have still

It's a stressful road at the moment
:-(
