General Election today (Monday) ......

......... after 11 weeks of official campaigning, we finally got to vote.

Change of government

YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!

Stephen Harper is out, will be resigning even as Leader of his party (or so the word is), and our new PM is Justin Trudeau, son of one of the most charismatic PMs Canada has ever had, Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

JT's victory speech was great.

Canada is on its way up once again ............... or so we hope

Hi Sylvia.

Just heard about JT on the news and now I'm feeling my age :-D

I can remember his parents (through newspapers, of course). If my memory serves me correctly, his mother was Margaret?

How long ago was that? I think I've woken up feeling all of my 21 years. ;-)

It's a long time since we visited Canada but we did enjoy the country and, most of all, the people.

Good luck with M Trudeau.

Hi Joy

PET was first elected in 1968, just about 1 month before we arrived to live here

Last Sunday (18th) would have been PET's 96th birthday :-0

JT's mother was Margaret Sinclair, much younger than PET ............... I think she was only about 21 when they married :-D

Yup, I am officially 'getting on a bit' as It seems like yesterday when I read (and my great aunt wrote) about the Trudeaus. Great aunt died when we were living overseas too and that's many moons ago so I am definitely feeling that the years have flown by.

However, getting up in the morning makes me happy. As a cousin always says, 'The alternative is not worth thinking about.'

Our news here is all about the Chinese visit but I did catch a spot about your Liberal Party and JT. You'll be able to sleep easier now, I think and hope.

Off to get ready for a coffee morning with friends.

Good luck.

:-)

The latest news is that at least 68.5% of eligible people voted yesterday .......

........ that's higher than in the last election in 2011, and the highest turnout since 1993.

PLUS ................ there were many young people 18+ voting in their first election, and older people who had never voted before or not for many years

There was definitely an aura of "change" in the air.
