Oh bless them both. I am glad Shirley was able to spend the day with her husband. Maybe he waited till she had gone to let his hold on life go. He had been having a difficult time of late but knew how much he was loved by his family doing so much to make him comfortable. May he rest in peace now.

My sympathy to Shirley and all the family, have been thinking about you

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 25 Oct 2015 01:02

Thank you

I had been with him yesterday and today. He was zonked out as they gave him morphine to pain control and he slept peacefully .
I was with him all day , the hospice were wonderful to me as well as him and made sure I ate lunch.

We could see things were going downhill with his colour and his cheeks sinking in .
He was so totally asleep and calm and not in pain which is what I wanted for him

I was knackered and worried about being able to be safe to drive home so decided to go home and come back later

He was cold when I kissed him and told him how much I loved him but if he wanted to go It was ok

Had just got home ten minutes when they phoned and said he had peacefully passed away

I think he waited for all of us to leave to let go

Obviously I think maybe I shouldn't have left when I did but was told you could have just gone to the loo or to have a drink and he would have let go. I don't think too I would have wanted to see him pass away . Was told he just let go .

Daughter and SIL and grandson and his wife came back up to me as they didn't want me to be alone . Tomorrow is a get myself together day to get in gear what we need to do now

I am in never never land at the mo .possibly switched off cos it's too painful to be in reality

Am off to bed now go try and sleep

Shirley, you gave your dear husband permission to let go, and he obviously didn't want you to witness the end. I know it would have been heartbreaking to get the news by phone and you are still feeling stunned but he is at peace now, dignified and painfree.

My Dad had lung cancer and was sedated too. I had gone in to visit him with Mum but had to go to pick up my son from school. Mum left the bedside to ring me and say a nurse had offered to give her a lift later so I needn't come out again. A few minutes later the nurse rang me back to say Dad had passed away. Mum told us that the nurses had turned Dad while she was on the phone, which she was glad of as she could see he was struggling.

Will be thinking of you all

I'm glad you are surrounded by family, they will look after you now,you deserve that. Look aftter yourself. I'm here if you need anything.

I am so pleased you were able to be with him so close to the end Shirley, it will have meant so much to him.

Because of your deep love for each other, and because of his strong faith in God, even in his poor state, he would have known that he was surrounded by love, well cared for, and blessed.

You have been a perfect example of a loving and caring wife and I salute you.

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

With my love to you and your family.
