How to correct a mistake on my family tree

I have returned to researching my family history after a break of a few years and I find I have made a BIG error. I have my great grandmother in 2 places on the tree. Both versions include numerous ancestors and descendants and I'm wondering if their is a clever way to merge the records (but keep the befores and afters if that makes sense). Otherwise I think I'll need to start all over again.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Richard

This will take you forever on Genes and can be v tricky.
Instead export yr tree to a GED file.
Then import the .ged file into Ancestry where you will be able to clean it up before exporting it to a new /ged file and then importing back into Genes.
There is free access to Ancestry at all public libraries.
Ancestry allows you to (a) merge records (b) easily change relations to be somebody else in the tree, delete them etc.
However if yr tree is smallish say under 200 records then porb easiest to start over.
nb: when importing into Genes anything already there will disappear.

Can you export a tree from Ancestry? I've never managed to figure that one out.

Thanks for the replies. Plan A will be to try Support first, then B will be Ancestry if the first option fails.

Thanks again

Are you sure that person has been added twice?

Under some circumstances a person may appear in two places in the tree but it is just the one person and one set of data

There should be a double page icon in the box of the duplicate if that is the case, and your tree is fine.

export a tree from ancestry

Go to your family tree.
Under the menu bar, next to your tree's name, there is a drop-down link labeled Tree pages with a down arrow. ...
Select Tree Settings from the drop-down menu.
On the right side of the page you will see a green button labeled Export tree, click it.
