I'm not quite sure why I should be an expert to pass comment on this story but I do believe that over the coming few weeks one or two may be painting the town (or city) red.

I always think of unadulterated white lights as 'cheap'. Ok mixed in with another colour, but nasty by themselves.

One local town some years ago went all 'modern' . They commissioned a number of wire cones to represent trees. The hanging decorations represented sets of eyes in various natural colours and the words Happy Holidays. They did recycle the coloured lights for the pedestrian area leading to the Panto theatre.

One of the Councillors worked at the same place as I did. He was a tad upset when I said the eyes looked like an advert for the clothes shop 'New Look'. The cones stayed in storage the following year ;-)

Gloucester have this year sold their lights to a town in the Forest of Dean, they have been used for several years and were blue and not popular. Apparently the new ones are white.

I don't think the City of Chester is very often associated with "cannot afford" lol.

I don't like blue Christmas Tree lights in the High Street either. Sinister and cheerless.

The Grauniad has a a tendency to print what they think even when they don't mean to which will one day be their undoing.

Talk about a storm in a Snow Globe. Someone wants his name in lights ;-)
Isn't there more important 'news' for the Independant to report than a local spat?

Red, gold and green are associated with Christmas. So what if the council can only afford red?

OFGS lol, well we have blue lights in the town centre trees here at Christmas, and a more depressing sight on a misty December night it's hard to imagine :-( But I wouldn't go so far as to say it was a Tory plot to depress the masses ;-) ( they do that without the aid of fairy lights!).

btw do you think they meant 'reached' or 'retched'?

"The Independent has reched out to Cllr Jones for a comment."

Possibly Errol can enlighten us on this bizarre story:

The Chester coat of arms are blue with golden wheatsheaves.
The future looks glum for red squirrels, post boxes, telephone boxes, fire engines, Wirral footballers in Chester though Everton may be happy.
