We were happily sitting in the dark when the door bell rings. We ignore it before curiosity gets the better of us.

It turns out to be the 2 girls from next door, 1 of their cousins and both Mums.
Suggesting to Mum that next year they give us the 'heads up' in the afternoon, she explains (with eyes rolling) that they've just got back from a half-term break and the girls were fussing about going out.

Its a shame really - although our road/area doesn't 'do' Halloween, if we are expecting to be visited, we'd enter into the spirit for the children's sake. As it is, they probably only got one 'Snowball' each. At least it stops himself from pigging out :-D

I don't mind the trick or treaters.
I put nothing outside to encourage anyone, and they usually ignore me.
It seems next door and across the road have either a pumpkin for encouragement, or their own relatives going back and forth - bang on door, dogs bark, screaming, door slams.
Never usually get this amount - and 'handily' they started after the rugby.
Mind you, if you have the 'audacity' to park in an empty spot outside their houses, it can get rally scary!!

What has really got my goat, is one of their 'pranks' was to set off a bl**dy banger.
Not expecting it, 2 of my cats were outside (fortunately, the really scared one was inside - now hiding)
No doubt these 'jolly' people will have a humdinger of a firework display in their back garden around about Bonfire Night.
So, from now until about 10 November, the cats will have to stay in when it gets dark. :-| :-| :-| :-| :-|

We have just had our second lot of Trick or Treats, with their parents standing at the top of the drive. Question is, why am I so excited?

It's a friend's birthday tomorrow....... (31st)

She celebrates every year by dressing up in a horrible long frock & a pointy hat........ also wearing scary makeup.........

......... and she answers the door with a cackle

Funny thing is, she really IS a witch! :-D

Liz ..........

that's also a sign here that you are ready for trick or treaters ........... the pumpkin MUST have a lit candle inside it though

Seems to be a new? sign here that if you show a pumpkin outside or at the window, it means you are up for a visit by Trick or Treaters.

Won't be any good them coming here, we are away for the weekend to Chelmsford to see granddaughter, who will be 5 on Saturday, we are in an hotel till Monday morning.

they'd better not knock on the door before Saturday evening over here

It's bad enough having fireworks going off illegally after dark.

In fact, we have cancelled Hallowe'en for the second year as we got so fed up of getting only teenagers .............. we're going out for dinner this year.

The unwritten law over here is that kids (even teenagers) do not knock on doors where the outside light is turned off, and where no lights are showing inside at the front of the house.

I answer the door with a grotesque behind me, (my daughter pointed out it was a bit 'off-putting' in 'normal' circumstances, but that's where Cyril lives), my face, and two black cats at my feet :-D :-D :-D

....and you want what?..................

supercrutch

Perhaps the contents of my commode emptied from a first floor window may be a deterrent ;-)

SheilaSomerset

SheilaSomerset Report 29 Oct 2015 21:06

We'll just send the dog into the garden to do his lupine howl.

A long, dark, wet, wild and leafy garden is a great deterrent :-D

Dear grumpy in the valleys

just make sure you don't appear on my doorstep - I'm already on medication

lolol

We honestly don't mind the little ones who have their parents supervising them but teenagers? NO...

Our grandchildren will be out on Saturday but it's a group event with all the parents dressing up too. Non threatening and all the adults can join in with their kids. May be we should go to them on Saturday? and before anyone says that I wouldn't need a mask...SHUT UP!
