David you could also contact [email protected] and ask for help with anything specific that posters might not know ( not all have a tree on here).

Hello David, there is all this dialogue because this is the General Chat board and we can chat for ever on here!

Have you tried clicking on 'Help' at the top of the page, above where it says 'Keepsafe'? You can find out all sorts of information about the site on that tab.

Hope this helps.

All this dialogue to find out how to do something basic! - Sorry, but this should be available in the site procedures!

Hi again David

I'm happy to help, if I can:-)

I'm not sure whether or not I've understood your question correctly, but I will try to explain what I think you are asking.

You can attach any document accessed through Genes Reunited (BMD, Census', Parish Records etc) to someone on your tree.

For example, if you find a Census that has your ancestor on it- On the top of the Census, toward the middle you have a green button that says "Keep and Attach".
First click on that.
Then click on the Green button that says *Edit Keepsafe details".
A white box will appear.

In the box that says "Attached Relations" start typing in the relative that you want to attach it to. Again, as you are typing, names from your tree will start to appear. Click on the one you want. You can attach the record to more than one person using this method.

Then click on "Save".

THIS IS IMPORTANT
GR will only allow you to view the attached document you have stored in your Keepsafe another time, if you have either a Platinum Subscription or have Credits from a Standard subs, or if you "pay per view".
Each time you look at the record in your Keepsafe you will be charged credits if you do not have a Platinum Subscription.
If you have a Platinum Subscription, you have unlimited access to the record in your Keepsafe while you have that subscription.

Before or after you have attached the record to a relative, you can also DOWNLOAD it to your computer, by clicking on the download button. Then you will always have access to that record from your computer for free.
I always do this, and then print them out to store in a file also.

All attached records, documents, photographs etc in your Keepsafe come under the title "Media".

You can also upload records, photos etc from your laptop or PC to your keepsafe and then attach to a relative. You will be able to view these in your Keepsafe as and when you want to.

I hope this helps. :-)

JOY:-D

The earlier one (at the time of your post) was the gorgeous All Black (New Zealand) Dan Carter.

Now it's All Black Sonny Bill Williams.
I try to change my avatar to match an article I have posted on my Rugby Thread :-)

Dermot, here's a friendly reply :-D. Hope it makes you feel a bit better.

JEM
Who's the hunk in your photo? One of the rugby players?

Sorry Errol :-D

You're a brave man David asking a second question :-) :-D :-) :-( lol

I think you are right about adding bmd's

Thanks for all your help - I now have the 'knowledge'
I assume items such as BMDs documents can only be attached as photos and not as documents because they have to be uploaded.

The HELP tab at the top of the page tells you how to do most things. In particular attaching from keepsafe to tree is covered.

'Interesting' thread so far - 2 helpful replies & 2 not up to much.

Not overly friendly - is it?

As David is a fairly new poster, I'll let him know how to find his replies... :-)

we do have TWO boards for that ................

people ask questions re how to do things on site on BOTH the General Chat and the Genealogy Chat Boards.

Don't think we need another one!! Especially as many people can't tell the difference between the ones we do have :-D

It's easy when you know how, David :-)

Hover the mouse over the record or photo in your Keepsafe that you want to attach to a rellie on your tree.

3 boxes will appear- Edit, Move and Delete

Click on Edit

You will see a section that says "Attached Relations"

Type in the name of the person on your tree that you want to attach the record / photo to. Usually a choice of names from your tree will start to appear underneath the box.
Click on the one you want, and it will appear in your "Attached Relations" box.

Then press the Save Changes button.

Isn't that what people do on the General Chat board?

David

David Report 3 Nov 2015 19:07

Why can't we have a board where we can ask others how to do things? eg. I want to attach a record from my Keepsafe to one of the people in my tree - nowhere does it say how to do this!
