We are sorting out what we need for a new bathroom. Looking at baths we are most surprised to see that hardly any of them have grab handles on the sides. We find these a great help hen getting out of the bath so it is a suprise to find they no longer seem to fit them. I assume it is a cost thing. Anyone know the reason why? :-S

Have you googled

'baths with grab handles' ?

Do you mean handles like this

Maybe it's a 'style' thing that they don't put them on so many, that luxury look, some of the bathroom displays would need you to have a room almost the size of the whole of the upstairs here :-D

Yes, like that rose. we have two catalogues from the person doing our bathrooms place he gets his stuff, both have bths etc varying prices and none of the baths have handles. None of the baths, all prices, had handles in B&Q. Strange, he is coming round today so i will ask him why.

Homebase do them. They have a steel version and an acrylic one on their website.

So do Wickes, but the reviews on theirs would put me off!!

I think we'll go without and we will still have a grab rail on the wall. We are having a shower bath.

I've hardly ever seen grab bars on baths over here ............ grab bars are installed on the walls.

On our new bath we don't have them but my grab rail was measured to my height and attached to the wall.

As I use an electric bath lift ones on the side of the bath were of no use besides I have had the taps and waste thingy installed in the middle because then I can reach them...lolol

I also had the longest bath we could find that fitted in the space, being tall doesn't help, at least with one this I get my knees under water :-)

Hope you get something sorted that you like

xx

My OH qualified for a wet room, courtesy of the council.

ABSOLUTELY BRILL.

It has improved his independence in the ablutions area no end.

Bye bye bath. :-D

Cynthia - In the 1950s, we had a wet room where the water flowed through a drain in the middle of the floor – but it was more to do with a pesky roof leak than a design feature.

We have opted for a P Bath (shower bath), we are used to having a shower over the bath but have always had an electric one that is not a power shower, having been apparently wrongly advised that a power shower wouldn't work. howevr we are now to have a power shower. We have for over 20 years had a grab rail on the wall the shower end of the bath so we will do that again. If the time comes that we can't get out of the bath without help then we will have the bath removed. The bathroom is to be started on 30 November, can't say I am looking forward to the work being done but am looking forward to an updated bathroom, ours is still very 70s as regards the tiling, we did have a new suite 23 years ago though.

As my bath lift stays in the bath (apart from cleaning) we had a shower cubicle put in for hubby as he prefers a shower.

We were very lucky a neighbour and his bathroom fitting pal installed everything for us and to our exact requirements, including a disabled height loo. Panelled walls (they weren't straight enough to tile), non slip flooring and lever taps etc.,

We didn't qualify for any financial help so had to work within a budget and we managed to come in under that.

Just took us 3 years to plan it all......lolol

glad you got it to your satisfaction Sue, we wouldn't have room for a bath and a shower cubicle. I do prefer a bath.

When & who was it decided to promote the bathroom from a room that wasn’t always necessarily indoors into what might well be described as a new private living room at the heart of every house? :-S

Because hopefully we've moved on from the chilly, cobwebby outside loo with it's forlorn roll of Izal, and a quick scrub with a rough flannel in a bathroom with no central heating.

I love my bath - it's a sanctuary as well as a place to get clean :-D

A female colleague of mine regularly boasts about the quality & sumptuousness of her bathroom.

She has a habit when visiting other homes to pardon herself politely & asks to use the loo. She is not an incontinence sufferer or anything like that. She is just nosey & keen to see the 'facilities' of others. Any fresh or different ideas gleaned elsewhere will surely be promptly incorporated in her own establishment.

She is Mrs Bucket's double - well, almost! :-D

When I had my bathroom done, I sourced online whatvI would like and then my builder got exactly what I needed. Using his trade deals!

I have a lovely loo taller than normal loo, about 2ins higher than the child sized ones that seem to be the norm these days!
