Isn't it great when you get to see a picture of a rellie who was just a name?

Last weekend a cousin visited and gave me a copy of a picture she had "inherited" from her father. It was a picture taken on a beach of our grandparents and three of their children i.e. my mother, my cousin's father and their sister.

What was so great is that my grandfather died before my mum married and I have never seen a picture of him. I felt immediately that I would have liked him. I have also never seen a picture of my mother earlier than her thirties - she didn't even have wedding photos - so to see her as a child of about 11 was wonderful.

My cousin has really made my week :-D

Wish I had names for the photos left behind by my grandparents. Only two had names on them. I managed to identify another with the help of the Army Museum and another (of my gt grandfather) by means of deduction.

Got lots unidentified so I would advise everyone to putt names and dates of birth on reverse if possible.

it is wonderful - a cousin on my paternal side gave me a photograph of my great grandmother - initially I thought it was my grandmother but the dress she was wearing told me different

a cousin on my maternal side gave me a photograph of my grandmother, who I knew very well, along with four of my mother's siblings, but best of all my great grandmother was on there and I'd never seen her before, though she was alive when I was born - wonderful

I have a fairly large box of photos but no-one left alive to ask to identify the subjects.

I too have a big box of photographs - mostly of my paternal line - I know who most of them are but who'll want them when I've gone? son's not interested
