Make the most of it Errol - I bet you don't get offered Platinum at £9.98 again.

Well, you have all convinced me and I have just paid my £8.96 for another year at Standard Membership. I know it is mentioned when you pay but I think it is very naughty of them to automatically switch the auto renew on every time you renew. Any preference we set should be left until we choose to alter it. I have turned mine back to auto renew off again as that is the way I want it, but I don't think I should have to do that just because Genes have chosen to change my preferences.

Moan over. I'll now enjoy another year on the boards. :-D

Wow, I bet somebody slipped up there.

perhaps we should all copy Errol's posting and send it to GR asking for the same

Thank you Errol the Sheep,

Your payment has been received and you are now a member of Genes Reunited.

Your receipt reference: XXX_XXXXXXXXX_XXXX

You have been billed £9.98 GBP for a 12 month Platinum membership.

Less than Standard? :-S

How did you manage that?

eRRolSheep Report 6 Nov 2015 15:21

My standard membership lapsed. After a gap, I subsequently renewed with a Platinum membership and it cost me less!

AnninGlos Report 6 Nov 2015 14:42

Well you are the only one who managed that Erroll, everyone else who has lapsed has paidd more as far as I am aware.

Vera, you would miss us wouldn't you? go on admit it!! :-D :-D <3

Don't know how you managed that Errol, I paid double after a break :-(

Vera, do stay if you still enjoy the site, as to whether GR will last another year, I wouldn't put money on it!

It was a joke Errol. Obviously fell flat. ;-) ;-) ;-)

i had a gap between my membership lapsing and me renewing it, and it actually cost considerably less.

As for the poppy saga - you can't really just copy and paste like that.

If you hang on a few more months, you probably won´t have a choice.

As a matter of interest, couldn´t the tech department (or someone) cut & paste last years´poppy. After all, it was enough of a struggle to get it.

Looking forward to this year´s Chrissie decs with bated breath.

If you enjoy chatting with 'friends' you've made, then renew. If you allow your sub to lapse, it will cost you double to rejoin!

From a business proposition, the fewer paying members there are, the greater the chance BS can argue with the monopolies commission – or what ever they are called- for closure or amalgamation.

Mine is at the old rate too and I renew as i still enjoy looking for other peoples ancestors .My tree is very slow now as have got back as far as I can .with a few brick walls that I look for from time to time .

I have subs to ancestry etc and these would be underused now if I didnt help others with their trees

Even though the threads are a bit slow I still like catching up each day on the posts

I ask myself this question every year and I'm still here after 12 years! I pay £15+ a year but it still not a lot a month.

If you cancel and then decide to rejoin it will cost you more than you pay now, for sure.

...shall I renew or not?

I have a tree on here but haven't added to it for ages and I never use GR for research. The boards only move slowly and a lot of the "characters" who used to post have left.

On the other hand £9 for a year doesn't seem too excessive to be able to use the boards when I want so I will probably renew. I have to decide this weekend.

I do wonder if GR want members to renew. I have auto renew off but have always had an email in advance reminding me that subs are soon due and how much they will be. Nothing this time, apart from the word "Renew" at the top of the page and I am not sure I would even have seen that if I hadn't made a note on my own calendar to remind me when it was due, so I was actually looking for renewal information.

Do you think GR will last another year?
