Well - its not thunder so it must be fireworks. They definately aren't back-garden ones. Perhaps the local Sikh community don't want to waste their purchases??? |

OK then Maggie, here is the story. I was alone in the woods, I shot a deer from my high seat, about 100yards out in the field, and after I had gutted it, was dragging it to the edge of the field when I had this terrific pain in my chest, and came over all cold and clammy and faint. I was in a spot where a couple of yards in any direction I may not have had reception on my mobile, but on this occasion was lucky. I phoned my wife, who luckily was in, who found the gamekeeper's number in our book, and luckily he also was in. He knew where I would be, and two of his neighbours, who are both paramedics, were also in. They were able to direct the ambulance around the edge of ploughed fields to where I was. The paramedics had already inserted a canula, and given me a soluble aspirin before the ambulance got to me. When they got me to hospital I caused quite a stir as I had quite a lot of blood on my hands and trousers from the deer. So now you know. |

Fireworks for Diwali has been cancelled for practising Sikhs. . Our nearest town has a large Sikh population, and quite a few families living closer. We'd normally see or hear their firework display. This year there is nothing. |

Good! I expect they thought they could get away with it, it being Diwali - but if there are no Sikhs, Jains or Hindus in your vicinity, it will be some dork.... |

Diwali tonight, Sue, so unlikely to be the same 'culprits' as those setting them off from 31 October - 8 November - you know, that week (plus) commonly known as Firework 'night'! :-| |

No venison Maggie, sorry. I used to shoot a lot of Fallow deer, but as age has crept up on me I find it too much effort. In fact, it was dragging a fallow that I had shot to the edge of the field that caused my first heart attack. It was only a series of lucky co-incidences (the story is too long to recount here) that caused me to be found fairly quickly. |

it was announced on the radio here this morning that local Sikh temples have called for no fireworks or special lighting on Diwali this year .................. it's in reaction to a call fro Black Diwali from the Amritsar Golden Temple after protests over the alleged desecration of the holy book 'Guru Granth Sahib'. |
