:-D Bob - yes, I like a bit of fresh, humanely shot meat - as opposed to 'slaughtered' meat :-D (like I enjoy an organised firework display as opposed to the neighbourhood feeling/sounding like a bl**dy warzone night after night!)
Got any venison?

Denburybob Report 10 Nov 2015 20:56

I have several guns, both shotgun and rifles. They are strictly controlled, kept in a locked safe, ammunition in a separate locked safe, and if I misuse any of them they will be confiscated without any compensation. But then, I am a responsible member of the community. Anyone want any rabbits?

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 10 Nov 2015 19:44

I was using the gun as an example of an inanimate object being fine, but those in possession of it are at fault.
They both make a similar sound as well- and it's the sensation of being in a war zone when fireworks are continually going off, hour upon hour, night after night, that is distressing to people, babies, pets and wild animals

Guns, in themselves are harmless - so why are they so difficult to get hold of?
Perhaps it's because in the wrong hands, deaths and injuries occur.
Fireworks in themselves are harmless, but any moron over 18 can buy them - and, in the wrong hands, they can kill, maim and damage property.

That is why I used that analogy.

That is my opinion, I am entitled to it, it is not 'wrong'.
You may try to convince me otherwise, but I'm afraid you're banging your head against a brick wall - and the noise is irritating me

:-D

I find it a little hard to compare gun statistics with fireworks. surely these are two entirely different issues?

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 10 Nov 2015 19:03

Same with guns. Fortunately, they're difficult to buy over the counter.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 10 Nov 2015 17:52

Which proves my point - it is not an issue with fireworks, it is an issue with careless/thoughtless individuals.

I've just C & P this from our local online newspaper:

It is illegal to:
•Have or use adult fireworks if you’re under the age of 18. Adult fireworks are any firework except for a cap, cracker snap, novelty match, party popper, serpent, sparkler or throw-down.
•Set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am. There are different arrangements for special occasions like Guy Fawkes Night (midnight), Diwali, New Year’s Eve and Chinese New Year (1am).
•Have professional fireworks without a licence.
•Sell fireworks without a licence

The article was about someone's home being smothered in debris from a neighbours.

I live in Plumstead SE London. We have a thriving Asuan community.

So we have Fireworks, for Halloween, Guy Fawkes, Divali. Then continuous between now and New Year.

I do not mind most of them, but someone is still selling those very large, very loud ones, which make the house shake. I am sure they were banned years ago?.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 9 Nov 2015 17:06

It would be a funny old world if we regularly banned things merely on the offchance that they may or may not upset/offend etc etc

Oh yes, Errol, soldiers fought for our freedom.
Shame they have to be reminded of what they went through for over 7 days on the trot, and on Remembrance Sunday as well - not so much a case of 'We will not forget', more a case of 'remember this?'
But it's everyone's RIGHT to let off explosives in their garden's isn't it?
Soldiers fought for it.
Don't forget it was Governments that sent them to war - those who sit in the same place Guy Fawkes tried to destroy.
As Harry Patch said:
"politicians who took us to war should have been given the guns and told to settle their differences themselves, instead of organising nothing better than legalised mass murder.”

They don't really understand why they are allowed to set off fireworks, do they?, It's nothing to do with Guy Fawkes, otherwise Catholics wouldn't set them off. Have you noticed how 'Guy Fawkes Night', has become 'Fireworks Week'? :-(
From your responses, probably not.

It must be so nice for you to be living in a nice quiet area. Enjoy your smugness.

Edit: 23:42, another load of whizz bangs....

Fireworks just started again :-|

Guinevere Report 8 Nov 2015 19:04

It was pouring down here last night so I'm guessing some parties were postponed.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 8 Nov 2015 18:50

They started up here again about 6.30. I don't normally mind fireworks but, like Maggie, I think this year's are particularly noisy and never ending and they do seem inappropriate for Remembrance Sunday........or perhaps I am just a grumpy old woman.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 8 Nov 2015 18:15

Maggie - next year you could consider making a bit on the side. Rent out chairs in the best viewing room + sell homemade soup or snacks ;-)

TBH fireworks don't bother us, not that we live in an elevated location or echo chamber. There have been the normal bangs and crackles, but none of the window rattling booms of previous years.

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 8 Nov 2015 18:06

We have had them for a week (up until last night).

It seems everything gets dragged out, Easter, Halloween and Christmas included.

As we are on one side of the valley the noise reverberates around so we can't not hear those being 'enjoyed' across the other side :-(
