my dad always called our elder brother Stanley , "Boy "

it wasnt said in any malice or reprimand

we grew up calling him Boy too and he was OK with it till he was went in to do his National Service and he had mates coming home with him .

we were told quite firmly his name was Stanley. he didn't mind Stan but calling him Boy was out

took a lot of getting used too with occasional slip ups when were told very firmly that not my name

When choosing our children's names, we deliberately chose ones for the girls which could be shortened. That was so if they turned out to be tomboys, the shortened version was more appropriate. We only used the correct version when they were naughty.

His friends call our son by his surname. That's because there were quite a few with the same first name in his school year group!

He calls his youngest sister Shrimp (small). In retaliation she calls him Flipper (big feet)! Neither dared call their other sibling anything other than her diminutive or full name. She used to have a terrible temper ;-)

Neither OH nor I were called anything other than our first name.

My daughter-in-law is also Catherine, she never answers to anyone calling her anything else. One of her neighbours called her a shortened name, when she didn’t answer, they repeated the name again and Catherine said, I am so sorry but I thought you were talking to someone else, my name is Catherine.

My Mum always used our full names, it was only when we left school that they became shortened.
When I met one of Mums cousins for the first time another cousin said to call him by his shortened name which I did but it felt odd.

My dad called me Maggie Mops, or just Mops, my siblings called me all sorts :-S Now, it's usually Mags.
My mother always called me Margaret.

At various primary schools, I insisted it was Margaret, because mum had told me no-one was to shorten my name, and I was terrified of being called Peggy!!

At secondary school, I was very thin, everyone had nicknames - mine was Maggot
:-(

When I work, Margaret is on my 'official' bits, but I'm known as Maggie, or Mags by my colleagues.
It's weird, I've found I get a different reaction when I call someone officially, and give my name as 'Maggie', so, when I'm not happy and, through official channels, have to contact someone who has annoyed me - then I'm 'Margaret'!

I don't really like being called Margaret.

I have a 'problem' with the name 'Neil'. It sounds so much like a command. If I like someone called 'Neil', I call them Ian :-S

Years ago at school I got called Lizzie by other children, altho officially and at home I was always Elizabeth. When in my mid teens I introduced myself as Liz and have continued to do so except on official matters. Even tho I have mentioned it several times, old school friends still use Lizzie which I hate and a couple of friends made a long time after I left school, call me Lizzie too. Grrr!

I hate being called Shirl . I mean it's only two more letters for my correct name

I always say my name is Shirley if someone shortens it

Named after Shirley Temple who was still popular when I was born but she was growing up a bit by then. Lol
:-D :-D

LS ................

glad to hear you are coming along well
That op sounds nasty, but if it works, hat is all that matters!!

Apparently I was supposed to be called Sandra until I was born, and my hair was sandy-coloured. Mum didn't want me to be called Sandy ............... so the name got changed. The only one she liked was the name her cousin had given to her daughter a year or so earlier .................. so Sylvia it was. Good job the cousins didn't see each other often!

My dad chose my name ,,,and would you believe ,it was after a house called Berenda!

If I had been a boy ,it would have been Alan which mum chose. :-S

Much better, thanks for asking SYLVIA <3

Had a physio appointment this morning, went very well. I've been advised to wean off the crutches instead of giving them up (balance can be a problem on a busy day), so I'm using one crutch.

Got a new set of exercises this morning, physio thought I may have problems with them, nope, so far they're a doddle :-)......... memories of dance classes lol :-D

I don't think I'll be dancing on tables any time soon, but getting better every day.

:-D

Did I tell you what the surgeon did? Sliced open my leg, down to the bone, then stapled & stitched the glut muscle onto the bone! :-( Sounds yucky....... but so far, it seems to have worked. No horrible burning pain in the hip any more! It's not painful now, a bit more than "mild discomfort" but now there's a light at the end of the tunnel........ an it's not a speeding train! :-D

some people insist on calling me Syl or Syls .............. I hate that.

Possibly because I greatly disliked the person who first used it many many years ago :-D

Is NOT difficult!

So why do people keep calling me something else?

Catherine. That's that's on my birth certificate.

My name is NOT Cath, Cathy....... or Cat!

I say to those people.... my name is Catherine, not Cath, Cathy, Cat, or whatever................

and they say something like....... Oooh, aren't you posh!

POSH????? Same name as my mother, grandmother great-great grandmother etc etc (not great-grandmother, she was Margaret)

At the weekend, a man called me "Brenda" :-S :-S I said I wasn't Brenda, my name is Catherine.......... and he said...... You don't look like a Catherine, do you mind if I call you Brenda?

Rant over

Brenda
