A family member was going to be a godchild of a newborn Vietnamese baby.

They parents proudly announced that the baby boy was to be called 'Dung' (I'm not sure of the exact spelling).

Since the family had resettled here but not been aware that the pronunciation might not be such a good choice of name in England, it was gently pointed out.

The little boy was named John.

I've mixed feelings as to whether it was the right thing to have done? His sisters all have Vietnamese names.

We were all conned!

Copied & pasted..........but I've used lots of *** in case the Guardian doesn't like it :-D

You can't have missed this story in your news feed this week: a 23-year-old Melbourne man desperate to convince Facebook that P*** D** B*** is his real, actual birth name.

Apparently the Vietnamese-Australian's NSFW moniker is meant to be pronounced more like "Phoo Da Bic".

"That can't be his real name!" you probably said with a laugh when you first encountered the story — except he posted a photo of his passport proving it was his real name.

Except it wasn't his real name. According to the latest post on his Facebook page, P*** D** B***s real name is (the far less hilarious) Joe Carr and the whole thing was elaborate prank on the social network, on the world media, and on us.

"Do you remember the story; The boy who cried wolf? Imagine that boy grew up into a mischievous man with 21st century technology at his fingertips," writes P*** D** B*** aka Joe Carr aka the year's most cunning trickster.

He writes that "P*** D** B***" started out in January as a protest against Facebook's policy that all users share their real names, but eventually snowballed into a giant hoax when the story went viral this month.

"It goes to show that an Average Joe like myself can con the biggest news sources with ease," he boasted (and look: fair call).

He encouraged those burdened with actual "strange" names to fight back against "hate and discrimination."

"To those who do have culturally specific and spectacular names, ignore the ignorance in those who may try to put you down."

So there you have it: a man named Joe Carr fooled everyone in the world with almost no effort. Unless his name isn't Joe Carr at all, and this is just another layer in 2015's most elaborate scheme...

:-D

The Facebook page with the "unfortunate" name exists! And......... there are loads of people with the surname Phuc!!
