Well they'd have trouble asking me to prove the name I use is mine in real life...cos it isn't!

I use my maiden name on FB, and on GR! Married surname isn't a common name.

I gave my birthdate, but not the correct year, and no way will I ever give FB my 'phone number.

I'm constantly amazed at what people post on FB, especially photo's of their children.

FB is trying to crack down on people using aliases, and have said they will shut down any accounts which are under a false name. They might ask for proof that the name you are using is yours in real life.

But the trick is always to hover your mouse over the hyperlink .......... the true site name of that link will appear.

I'm continually being asked for my phone number for "extra security" and if I want to add photos ............. nope and nope!

My birthday is on there .............. they did once query that as my birth year was a little unbelievable, or else I was very well preserved for my age:-D . Now it is a more believable year, but otherwise inaccurate.

I'm always asked for my phone number and if I want to add my picture to help my friends ID me.....not getting either !! My family and friends know my phone number already.

I got kicked out of facebook for not using my name and a group I like is being closed down for the same reason so Yes if you close down and can´t get back in without the message it´s genuine.

that's what I thought, the "log in" is a hyperlink...

Andrew Report 5 Dec 2015 15:44

Looks like as fake as it gets. The clue is 'Dear Member'. Any message should use your name given to the site. I would suspect the 'Log in' link will take you to a false page.

I haven't received this message, and I don't use my authentic name, neither do I have my birthday on there.
I DO get a message asking for my phone number for (apparently) 'extra security' (for whom would be my reply).
They're not getting THAT either!!!

does this seem right to you?

Dear Member,

We require everyone using Facebook to use their authentic name and birthday.
When we discover accounts that look fake or like they’re using fake information, we ask the owner to confirm they are who they say they are.

You'll need to provide a copy of your photo ID. This can be a scanned copy or a close-up photo you've taken.
