How long has Justin Bieber been your leader?

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Dec 2015 21:37

I think we can agree that all leaders for all parties and all countries have their various moments ....

I think I remember correctly wasn't it Harper who tried to walk his kids to school after he was elected and hashed it up big time ?

As for direct contact....don't you get your kids to look you in the eyes when you think they're lying...well all leaders......... :-)

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Dec 2015 21:33

I was trying to think when Justin had gone to the refugee camp, as I couldn't remember any photos, and he hasn't had time since he was elected and sworn in!

Harper did like his hair spray, and his stage-managed photo ops :-D

though, did you notice, he almost never looked anyone in the eye, or even directly face-to-face?

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Dec 2015 21:30

Opps old grey matter not what it was....Justin didn't go to the camp...just to the airport to meet them, thanks for the link Rambling Rose.

Interesting.

It was meant as a joke....to even it out though...Harper did love his hair spray.....

now that I think is an unnecessary, snarky comment about our PM, whether you agree with him or not!

so far as I am concerned, he is one heck of an improvement on the previous one.

Though, I grant you, we would not be having this discussion if Harper had regained power as he would not have been bringing in any refugees .................

nor would he have been doing anything to help Canada's own people in distress.

Quite why so many of the bigwigs went is a mystery......oh yeah photo op....Justin does like a good photo op...... :-)

Bigwigs very rarely enter danger zones, that's true.

This article from the NY times, caught my eye while I was looking to see if I could see what camp it was.

"From a core of 16 people, Syrian Refugee Sponsors Huntsville ( Ontario) now has about 300 volunteers. “Not in my wildest dreams did I think that would happen,” she said. “It was so positive.”

The group, which had factored bake sales into its fund-raising plans, also fulfilled its initial target almost immediately when Robert and Jacquie Nunn, who live in the adjacent community of Lake of Bays, donated 28,000 Canadian dollars.

Mr. Nunn, 65 and recently retired, said he was looking for “an indulgence” to mark the event. In Huntsville, an ad on a bulletin board for a motorboat caught his eye. Along with the boat ad, he also took a flyer from a refugee group.

After reading both on a flight to Florida, Mr. Nunn decided to make the donation rather than purchase the boat — even though it “looked pretty cool,” he said.

“A fancy trip, a car or boat, kind of diminish and memories fade,” said Mr. Nunn, who had never supported any refugee group. “This refugee effort will have effects that go on for generations. Where is the best value, where is the best return? I threw away the boat ad.”

I'm not sure we've been told the actual name just it's a UN camp, and there's been pictures of all our bigwigs going there so we could see how organised and clean etc it was. The sheer fact all the bigwigs went it can't be too unsafe.....

Rambling Report 13 Dec 2015 20:28

I'm afraid I don;t know which camp the refugees who arrived in Canada came from? I may have missed it though in the news reports.

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Dec 2015 20:19

Rambling Rose my understanding is the people coming to Canada are coming from a safe and (by any camps standards) clean UN camp.
Is it as good as home no obviously not, but it's hardly a shanty town.
Obviously there will be many different types of camps, but UN ones are usually guarded and safe aren't they ?

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Dec 2015 20:15

That's okay !

RR is a cowards way out unless the contents are really unacceptable...which of course they weren't in this case.

I am not sure I would call seven miles from the Syrian border a "safe haven".

" 10,000 children have been killed in Syria, 2 million ( children) have fled the country, 80,000 people are in the za'atari refugee camp in Jordan, seven miles from the Syrian border"

Sorry, Caroline, it's just that the post was addressed to you so I assumed that you RR'd it.

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Dec 2015 20:11

again due to changes this might not make sense !!

Nope already stated I didn't RR it.

Just because I don't agree with what might be said doesn't mean I'd RR it.

MargaretM Report 13 Dec 2015 20:09

Wow, my post got RR'd! I feel very honoured.

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Dec 2015 20:08

Agreed Rambling Rose. True refugees will seek safe haven in this case UN camps.

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Dec 2015 20:04
