Merry Christmas to you all.

It's been hectic, but I think all the cards went out, I have all the food we need and all the pressies are wrapped ready! Thank you for the lovely cards received.

Today will be busy, visiting o.h.'s father in the rehab unit then on to see my son and his family, and finally back home to eat our Christmas dinner!

I hope you all enjoy getting together with loved ones and friends

I hope you have a lovely day Liz. I have just finished my Christmas dinner, a microwaved one that I bought. I decided I was going to stay at home and do my own thing this year. No overeating!
I am a bit concerned about my eyes today, might have to see if I can get a lift to the weekend doctors tomorrow, take a small bag in case I get sent to hospital. Fingers crossed it wont be necessary. I have spent most of today sleeping. Probably have trouble getting to sleep tonight, but hey, I have only myself to think of. But if you dont hear from me for a while, dont worry. I will be back.

Merry Christmas Liz.
Hope you enjoy going to see your family.
I have my daughter with me at the moment and we are going to my blind friends and I am cooking Christmas dinner there.
This is the first time I have been at home for Christmas since my OH died 4 years ago.
Huia,I hope the problem with your eyes can soon be sorted and it doesn't need a stay in hospital .

Thanks folks!

Yesterday went sort of to plan. I got some lovely gifts and cards but o.h. is so stressed out he isn't good company!

Today he went to visit his father on his own, found the old man's roast dinner uneaten. Because it was a roast Christmas dinner again the old man had refused to eat it, he swore it was reheated from what he left yesterday when he choked on some parsnip. He would not believe the staff when they said they would not reheat food, it's not allowed even on the same day of serving. Apparently he has made a complaint! I am not surprised he choked, we were there when his 'tea' came round. He slurped up the soup without giving himself time to breathe spilling lots from the spoon onto his bib. Then he shoved almost half a slice of white, buttered bread in his mouth at once. One of his daughters was trying to help by moving the side table through the bed bars and across the bed but he kept grabbing the remote control and moving the bed up and down! He was then served macaroni cheese with pureed carrot which again he ate in such a rush and with big forkfuls his daughter told him off. He's becoming his usual self again! He has a 'grabber' stick and uses it to pinch the nurses, he says they laugh but I bet they want to slap him, I would lol
He has fallen out with all the people at the Spiritualist church they used to attend so no-one visits and his wife can't get there now as he used to drop her off and no one has offered to pick her up.
No doubt he will cause more problems before he leaves the hospital - several weeks and months to go as he still has no feeling or movement in his left leg and cannot move his left arm at all, just a tiny wiggle of some fingers and his thumb. He is already bored despite al, the family visiting as often as possible. His new roommate has dementia and sleeps most of the time, altho apparently he somehow managed to get out of the ward with his walking frame the other day and was found out in the grounds!

Happy New Year lol

Liz, reminds me of when I visited my dad in a hospice. He had lymph cancer - and a brain tumour.
I arrived, to be told he had got up in the night, and had dismantled the toilet!! (couldn't see what that had to do with me!!)
'Did he put it back together' I asked
'No' the nurse replied.
'Oh. so nothing unusual' was my response. ' He did that sort of thing all his life!!'

Dad was in bed, looking for something.
'What are you looking for dad?' I asked
'My fan' he replied.
'What do you need a fan for, dad?'
'I'm the king of Ethiopia', was his reply,
'Good place to be', I told him.

Oh, heaven help us, I can't cope with him thinking he's a king!

Seriously tho, it must have been sad to see your father suffer. When my Dad was at the end of his fight with lung cancer he was hallucinating because of the morphine he was on. He thought he was back at work altho he had been retired for 16 years, so my brothers just went along with his train of thought, bless him.

O.h. just told me that his father said today that a week before the stroke, he went to say something to his wife, and the words wouldn't come out. It was obviously a sign something was wrong but the silly fool hadn't told anyone or visited the doctor. If only he had, this whole sorry mess could possibly have being avoided.
