I used to get offended by various things on here but I've "toughened up" and I just don't comment in most cases. The only thing that has truly annoyed me was the veiled accusation that the RR'r was probably from Down Under because of the time difference.

You have the credit card? Well done!! :-D

Sylvia, I remember that debacle, and no, you are nothing like the previous one :-D

However, some people did/do return, under another 'moniker', having been banned.
I just presume they've learnt some manners and are now going to be less abrasive :-D

You did make me laugh, Sylvia!

I made the mistake of jumping straight into a 'make believe' thread, no introduction, just enjoyed the 'play'! I forget the name of the thread now, it did run for ages..

Everybody seemed to think that I was an imposter returned :-D I believe they needed proof that I wasn't somebody else and wanted to peruse my tree :-D I was probably already off it :-D :-D :-D

I lasted less than a week the first time I posted on General Chat about 10 years ago. I didn't return to "chat" for several years, although I was helping on all other Boards.

Why?

Well, when someone accuses you of being "that nasty Sylvia returning", and "we remember all that you said" .....................

and then someone accuses you of being someone else under a different name, just because you live in the same country and post late in the evening UK time ............... as the other person and I were posting at the same time on the same threads, I think the other member(s) thought I was talking to myself :-S

and then I strayed on to a thread where there seemed to be a battle royal going on.

Three evenings of that, and I was gone!

I only really returned to spend any time on Chat after things started slowing down about 2008/9

BTW ............. I have no idea who "Sylvia" was, she'd left or been banned by the time I ventured on here.

I do know that it is NOT, I repeat NOT, the Sylvia who is posting now, so I hope she does not get upset at what I have said!

Usually, if things don't suit me, I walk away quietly, and that is what I did until you all noticed.

lavender Report 4 Jan 2016 20:26

I was away at the time of the Paris atrocity.

When on holiday I don't switch on the tv or radio, nor read a current newspaper.

The next day I remember being upset and ashamed that I had written something trivial on the board at a time when these things were happening that I knew nothing of.

It is just life, though. We can't all read everything, nor can we get it all right all of the time.

It would be a shame not to continue posting, especially when so many express their enjoyment of your posts. I think one needs to grow a thick skin when on social media. Personally, I generally keep away from other sites, my little peep onto the Facebook slimming page connected to the club looked promising, a good way to encourage others and be encouraged likewise. However, since I am entirely inept at anything involving the slightest technology, I managed to post my lunch yesterday on my profile page rather than the club page. It left me a bit red-faced. Since I am not wanting 'friends' my daughter says I shouldn't be writing on it anyway!

I do think that we shouldn't be concerned if we don't get responses on the board, although I do appreciate that your comment, Sharron, was more that people reacted badly to what you had written. I don't think it is true to say that you don't get replies?
All of us write posts that don't get a single reply occasionally. It happens to me, if on reflection I don't think the post has much worth I just delete it.

I noticed another member leaving recently. I believe they have left in the past and come back. They sounded hurt that their posts did not receive many comments. I was thinking about our personalities and how those same feelings might play out in the real world? About how their childhoods and life experiences might have made them overly sensitive to what they would perceive as rejection. It's almost like the pull and push that many do, needing people but then pushing them away. They are probably very sensitive souls.

Take heart from all the kind comments and don't stay away if you are going to miss the good company

edit* I wouldn't leave because your 'relevant and current point was overlooked'. I do believe that we have all written at times and not been understood, it has happened to me lots of times.

He is in here at 9.20 and I am in twenty minutes later, with the credit card!

I will need an anaesthetic for the cash extraction and then there is the result of taking the painkillers (more drilling perhaps?) to deal with.

Sharron!!!!!

have you deserted your post? :-D

Sue

Sue Report 4 Jan 2016 13:19

When anyone submits a post, people are going to have different takes on it and pick out certain things that they relate to.
I see that a lot of the time,, the actual point of the post is not answered in the way that the poster would like.
Sharron, if this happens, why don't you try to guide or ask again for what you would like answered.

Slightly off the subject, over the holliday period I have seen comedy shows laughing and joking about the current floods, and other disasters, which I thought was a bit near the mark, but that is allowed.! and audiences laughing their heads off.

Sharron, I understand your reason, but this sort of thing will happen anywhere in life. You have to make your choice.

I for one, have enjoyed your posts

Most of us are probably guilty to a certain extent. We read what we want to read, not what is actually written.

Similarly we all have different approaches to newsworthy events. We can't all be the same. Life would be pretty boring if we were.

Carry on posting Sharron. You are a valued member of the GR community and you're missed when you go into Purdah.

Look at it this way, you've got a post count of 10,000 odd Sharron, if every time you'd been reported ( with or without genuine reason ) was added up I doubt the total of reports would come to more than a fraction of a percent.... so that's good going I think :-)

Robert Report 4 Jan 2016 12:38

Sharron,

I seldom post on here and when I do I seldom get replies.
I have noticed that there are certain people who look for the
bad rather than the good.

Don't be put off - that means you have given in to the Bullies.

The silent majority enjoy reading the posts.

Rambling

Rambling Report 4 Jan 2016 12:35

I can't remember the joke or the comments Sharron, but in general a lot of what causes a "sharp intake of breath" is down to bad timing, often accidental as in tv programmes that happen to include a scene or storyline relevant in the news of the day...sometimes if it's going to be very obvious, they get cancelled, sometimes it's overlooked because it's not the 'main story'.

About 7 years ago I posted a thread ( on the back of something on tv I think) about adultery, 'is it better to tell or not tell' kind of thing. As I was fairly new to the board then I was surprised at the flurry of PMs asking that it be deleted because it was badly timed for several members ( quite enlightening lol). ;-)

Sharron

Sharron Report 4 Jan 2016 12:20

I thought I would tell you exactly what peeved me enough to stop posting.

Although in no imminent danger, I like so many others, live within striking distance of an out of control jet (they don't half shift when they get steam up) from Shoreham.

On the very night of the air crash the BBC showed a documentary about the death of Prince William of Gloucester and I posted that I thought it a little inappropriate to have done so in light of his having died by crashing an aircraft on to a public road during a race.

Nobody noticed the last bit but some replied about how they would watch it later or how he had been deprived of his woman. My relevant and current point was
overlooked.

Some time later, at the time of the Paris atrocity, a joke was published that had absolutely no relevance to the event unless you were deliberately looking to be offended.

I thought it funny and posted some replies, none offensive and one relating to a badly timed engine. That, very funny and, as far as I am concerned, totally innocuous joke brought forth such a flurry of tut- tut naughty-naughtying that I decided I could not be bothered with 'the moral high ground' any more, especially if they don't read the whole thread.

Surely, a post should be judged and answered in it's entirety and not on one small
part at the beginning when the poster may go on to give a more detailed explanation of what they have written.,
