What have I let myself in for?

I think I mentioned, before I stamped off sulking like a brat, that we were having my friend's daughter here for Christmas.

She slept on our front room floor on an air mattress and did an awful lot of studying in the four days she was here but she did have a Christmas dinner and we had ome fun together as well.

Now, she is Ovambo and they are culturally quite different from us in many ways, one of them being that they are a tribe and they have a very complex extended family system which means they will accommodate each other at any time necessary.

We have stayed with her family in the past and now she has stayed with us and, twenty years ago, when I was in no position to put anybody up, her mother stayed with my late friend in the village. It is her father who was my mate originally.

We, now, are kind of honourary Ovambo.

Now, I suppose, I must put up any itinerant Ovambo who might be passing. Oh dear, some of them keep GOATS!

There isn't any grass in m front room. They won't want them wandering off in the night.

Goats are browsers rather than grazers. Think of my curtains.

my brother kept goats........... one at a time

they were usually tethered to a pole in the middle of the lawn

one was a bad-tempered thing, would butt anyone & everything (especially rubbish bins.... probably so that he could eat the rubbish).

brother thought it was great......... because he only had to mow the grass in the corners, where the goat couldn't reach.

:-D

The first goat he ever had was given to him by a friend............ a few weeks later, the friend asked "how's the goat" and brother replied "it was delicious". His friend was so shocked, as he intended the goat to be a pet for my brother's children.
