Able to change format of dates automatically?

It is not advisable to use dates in the form DD/MM/YYYY or MM/DD/YYYY with the GEDCOM format used by most family history programs. If you do then expect all manner of problems especially when exporting/importing GED files. Unfortunately GR has done exactly that such that exported GEDS don't import v well into GENI AY etc. Grrr.

It is better to use any of these formats:
1821 JUN 1821 30 JUN 1821
which will mean the same thing regardless of using UK/USA systems.

A GED file is all text. Havng exported a tree to gedcom text even with the dates in dd/mm/yyyy a simple script written using VBSCRIPT PERL or RUBY or (best) ICON would be able to go through the file and automatically set the dates as wanted. If you don't know scripting yr local geek will probably help out. FH centre usually have some suitably tamed. If yr Geek does not know about GEDCOM give him this url:

http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pmcbride/gedcom/55gcch2.htm

good luck

GR only developed this bug since the great makeover 2/3 years ago. It is one of many reasons why GR is not for serious FH research.

I assume you are talking about the GenesReunited tree which expects date to be in the DD/MM/YYYY format. If you have some in the other format they may be misinterpreted by the GR software.

Best to export it to a family tree program that includes the option of changing the date format.

Don't think so.. You'd have to go into each profile and do it manually.

Right now, I have many of my relatives' dates in the British format (dd/mm/yyyy). Is there a way to automatically change them to the American way (mm/dd/yyyy)?

Thanks,
Kate
