Well it looks like the townsite of Yarloop has been lost and three people are still unaccounted for.

Yarloop is an historic townsite and was originally a mill town :-(

Thanks Maggie and AnnC.

I've just realised that it is not just road traffic to Perth that is affected, but the railway connection from Bunbury to Perth runs directly through the fire affected area

Stay safe, Allan. As for fires started by fireworks............. :-| :-| :-| :-| :-|

Allan

Allan Report 7 Jan 2016 22:35

Hmm, the fire has broken containment lines and is still out of control.

Bushfire warnings have now been extended to where we live in Australind, and surrounding areas :-0

I hope things are getting better today .................. best wishes to you all.

Thanks Ann,

I don't think that it will reach us, but I really feel for those directly involved

Flames, floods, the result is the same :-(

Thinking of all those affected. Stay safe allan.

floods here, fires there, what an awful worrying time. fires seem even worse than floods, it must be very frightening to those directly involved.

Scozz,

For two years running I worked part time for the Shire of Waroona as a contract Environmental Health Officer/Building Surveyor.

On both occasions, although covering for officers on leave, I was switched to assessing fire damaged properties.

I did the job, but it was heartbreaking to see the damage both to properties and the surrounding bush.

Waroona seems to cop it every year

Thinking of you & Mrs Allan

I remember having a garden full of ash after Ash Wednesday, when I lived near the Adelaide foothills. Everything smelled awful for weeks. I had to go into the Adelaide Hills about a month after the fires (for work!) and was horrified, I couldn't stop crying.

Scozz,

That's the one, and it's getting closer, although still 40 kms away

There was an evacuation centre set up in the centre of Harvey. That has now been closed because Harvey itself is in danger. The centre has now been set up here in Australind!

The pall of smoke is very thick, though thankfully quite high.

OH and myself have just returned home after a lunch out. Noticed lots of black things in the garden. Closer inspection showed ash and debris from the fires.

Apparently, over 21000 Hectares of bush has been destroyed

My thoughts are with those directly affected :-(

SylviaInCanada Report 7 Jan 2016 04:21

we had smoke here in July/August from forest fires about 100km away .............. it made breathing very difficult.

Last summer was a very bad and long fire year here. I trust it will not be as bad for you.

We've had lots of rain since before Christmas (it's rained every day!) but nothing like the floods elsewhere. The temperature has risen, so it's getting steamy. Not complaining, there are many people coping with awful things happening.

:-(

A Fire Officer in Victoria has proposed that known arsonists should wear an ankle bracelet, so that their whereabouts is known. Good idea...... but the bleeding hearts will knock that idea on the head.

Just saw this on msn, I hope you're not near it!

I know, Scozz. :-(

The last rainfall in our part of the West was at the beginning of December.

There have been major bushfires on the south coast at both Albany and Esperance.

The Albany one was started by some idiots letting off illegal fireworks on New Year's Eve :-|

Stay safe Allan <3

Many places in Oz, either bushfires or floods! :-(

Allan

Allan Report 7 Jan 2016 00:51

Sylvia, it shouldn't directly affect us, but the smoke is now starting to drift over.

We may also be affected by power cuts. Temps in the affected areas will be in the very high Thirties. Perth is expecting 39c today :-0

sounds bad!

A good job I wasn't travelling to Perth today. A bushfire in Waroona shire (about 50 kms north of here has closed all the Roads to Perth.

Residents in several locations have been advised that it is now too late to leave their respective areas, and one coastal community has been advised to evacuate to the beach
