I have never liked anything with a 'hot' taste and a couple of years ago I was staying in a hotel. The tomato soup we had was impossibly hot. I had to leave it. I ate most of the bread which was on the table to try to soothe my throat and tongue from the burning! The following evening they served kumara soup which I thought would be less spicy, but it was also impossible. When I went home I left a message on the comments page about the spicy soups. I hope they take note, but I doubt it. No wonder I hate eating out.

BTW, it is not good for my hiatus hernia, and I am sure I am not the only one with one.

I hate finding hidden chilli! Why do caterers assume everyone likes it!! :-|

Like Sharron, I'm highly sensitive to anything containing Chilli even if it's described as mild. Despite being an omnivore, it's making meal choices more and more difficult. Stear clear of the Lloyd Grossman pasta sauces. A touch of Chilli has been sneaked into some of those.

It's such a shame your wrap was too hot to eat & surprising the Brewery weren't aware of the omission on the description. It's a good job your mouth didn't blister!
Could the landlady make one up with out the sauce, or are they supplied as a prepped entity?

I do like spicy food but I don't like it so spicy that it overpowers the dish. I had a lobster spaghetti in Carluccios last week, it did mention chilli on the menu so I knew it would be spicy, it also mentioned baby tomatoes, I was glad i was alert taking the first mouthful as among the cherry tomatoes were largish pieces of fresh chilli which I find too hot so was able to pick all the pieces out before I ate. The actual chilli in the dish was not mouth searing hot. I still wondered why they had to put chilli in a lobster dish as lobster is a very delicate flavour. I did enjoy it though. :-)

Don't you find more dishes showing those jalapenos now>

If the 'pub' from one of the larger chains ;-) had stated how many jalapenos were on and in their vegetarian option it wouldn't have been my dish of choice :-0
They should serve them separately for those who might find it big/clever to eat so many and not ruin an otherwise ok dish. :-|

I was with OH who was working in the pub so I couldn't really complain but I talked to the landlady who suggested I contact the brewery, which I have done.

They were not aware that the chilli sauce was not mentioned on the menu.

Probably, nobody had mentioned it before because you are now supposed to like chilli which is creeping into menus much more these days.

The last time I had a McDonalds, which was probably more than ten years ago, the vege option came with a hot chilli sauce as standard.

did you complain Sharron, surely something that is hot rather than mildly spiced should be mentioned.

Hello, I am posting.

Yesterday, we went out to a pub from one of the smaller chains and had some lunch.Reading the menu, I was quite impressed with what they were offering for vegetarians but making a note to not have the vege burger because it was advertised as being comprised partly of chilli, which I don't like.

I know falafels usually have a little, unnecesary to my mind, chilli in them and I can cope with it but the falafel wraps looked lovely with pomegranate seeds and little gem according to the menu.

The first bite was, indeed, lovely. The second bite, however, incorporated the red hot, to my palate, chilli sauce which didn't warrant a mention on the menu but was a part of the wrap and made the rest of the meal inedible to me.

I love garlic but would not expect a huge portion to be in a dish I was served in a restaurant so why would anybody think it was normal to serve a very hot chilli sauce without mention because some people love it?
