Do you remember, just after Fred died, I asked about rag rug making to use up his bedding.

I have used some of it for the fripperies, and Lavender liked hers, so, if anybody wants one, I have plenty, and have just ordered a rag rug making kit.

It consists of a prodding sort of tool, a wooden guage you wrap the rag around to cut it to size and a square of hessian. M (three wheeler, homeless people stole that shed} immediately told me how his great grandfather died by breaking his hip on a rag rug!

Don't care, can't wait to get prodding!

Great fun Sharron. I have had many happy hours spent with my beloved Nan and Auntie making them. Such lovely memories of sitting by the open fire, fresh toast or crumpets done on a toasting fork and having lots of chats and laughs. Thanks for bringing back these cherished memories for me. I hope you enjoy doing it as much as I have <3

My grandmother made them, and there was always one in front of the big old black leaded fireplace where she did most of her cooking. The kind where there was an oven to the side, and a hob that could be swung in over the fire or out so you could take off the kettle or pan.

She used strips cut from old coats, skirts and trousers.

Good luck with that, Sharron :-D

If you don't want to break your hip, just put some non-slip stuff under it :-)

My Dad used to make them when I was young, they were snuggly but collected the dust, and that was before vacuum cleaners. I still have the impleme 0nt used and had thought of making one myself.
