Hello there

I am completely new on here and I have been asked by a very close friend if I can try and find information out about a Frances Philomena Coyle (her name in 1967) and I believe her maiden name. She was at that time a waitress living in Glasgow and the last known address is Norfolk Street. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

:-)

Welcome to GR and the boards Kimberley.

Ideally, this should have been posted on find living relatives, but now you're here....

If she has married in Scotland since 1967, her marriage record would be on Scotlandspeople which is a pay to view site. The same applies to death and birth registrations. To research Ancestors, you really do need the birth record to get back to the 1911census.

On the chance that she didn't marry, you could look for electoral listings on freeelectoralroll cross referencing the entry on 192.com. That would tell you if it were current.

You could also use the Search all Member Tree in this site - top right under Search.

Can your friend remember any other details? Approx year of birth? Names and yob of siblings.? Parent's names? If we can't find Frances, it might be possible to a relative who has contact details.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have very little information available. She gave birth to a son in March 1967 in Glasgow. Frances is the child's mother. I will take all the information and advice you have given me and keep trying. Thank you. :-)

Has the son accessed his adoption records? There may be more information on those.
Has he added his name to the adoption contact register handled by Birthlink?
Details, further links and advice here.

http://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/registration/adoption

Unfortuantely, as Scotlandspeople is a pay-to-view site, only a limited munber of GR members familiar with it would be confident to use their own credits to view details. Assuming she was born c1950, the BC and any subsequent MC would have to be sent for at about £10 each.

The address in Norfolk St....have you worked out if its a mother and baby home? If not, then may be a search of historical ER might throw up the names of family members. Try the library local to the address.

Searching on Scotland's people (for free) 1967-1980 for Frances Coyle
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/people/frances_coyle_1967_1980
brings up the following results

Statutory Register Births 1967 - 1980 10 matches
Statutory Register Marriages 1967 - 1980 Female 11 matches
Statutory Register Deaths 1967 - 1980 3 matches

Someone more familiar with the site might be able to whittle them down.

Oh my goodness!! I just paid for credits on Scotlandspeople and I found zilch!! Thank you so very much.

No, Norfolk Street I believe was a private flat.

He has not contacted Birthlink yet.

'Historical ER'? So sorry but what is this?

There are 2 marriages both in Glasgow on Scotland's people. No middle name, one in 1968 just says Glasgow and the other one in 1975 and says Martha St Glasgow. Googled Martha Street and that is where the register office was and Norfolk Street has a court at no 80? If you would like the names of the spouses in these 2 marriages please pm me. The other 9 Frances on marriage's that Det has put up all had middle names and none matched.

One giving a birth place of Ireland

......
Repeat the search using the son's birth name.

If you haven't already, send the tree owners a message. Just ask if their Frances ever worked as a waitress. If they are close relatives, but haven't listed the son, they may not know about him.
