Back from lunch, and it was lovely :-D :-D

All home made, and very reasonably priced for this area. Wine was pretty cheap too, a very nice merlot at £10 a bottle. Not a chain, but a family run pub/restaurant.

Yes Ann, I do remember the place you recommended, and very good it was, too

:-D :-D

Sorry Joy just been getting me washing out of the machine :-(

They have a couple of sister pubs nearby but not a big chain, think I recommended one to Gin when she was in Wales, am sure they went to eat there..that book is called. In My Wildest Dreams by Leslie Thomas.

I was telling Jem about it last night, as the author is from her neck of the woods, practically next door :-D :-D

He has written a few books, by far his most famous was The Virgin Soldiers :-D

It's sleety rain here now :-(

Where is that. - I guess it's not a chain at that price? It sounds dearer than the country hotel we often go to. <3

I'm off for lunch now.

Joy - They don't state prices on the internet because the prices vary in every Wetherspoons pubs.

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 21 Jan 2016 12:02

I do go to BHS too where it's cheaper by half. :-S They do a good fish pie in Durham BHS.

You have to scout a bit in Durham itself because some places overcharge - as you well know GP. :-0

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 21 Jan 2016 11:59

Take that back - it's £10.95 :-D

Just checked as we are due to go next week to meet a cousin.

We have been going for a lot of years - either just the two of us, meets with cousins, meets with friends.

Lyn, we regularly meet at a hotel outside Durham (in the country) and the price of fish, chips/mash and mushies was £10.99 when last we met (November).

I think it's easier for a big chain to have lower prices, especially in towns. :-0

You have enlightened me, GP. I have no idea what beers, lagers, stouts cost because I don't drink them. £1.29 for a pint of Guinness sounds cheap though so it may be that the food is not subsidised by the booze unless Wetherspoons suppliers are giving really good deals.

I've just googled and see we still have two Wetherspoons here so there used to be three. I have not found any prices online for here but I only quickly checked what we had. The Bishops Mill is the big one, The Water House is more like a pub unless they've taken over first and second floor space on either side.

We have a good variety of eateries in Durham though and we have tried a fair view of them. :-D
