Kev McCabe is a Sheffield lad made good, he also just happens to own Sheffield United. As it happens he owns a place in LM Club and frequents the bar my OH works in. A very approachable chap, salt of the earth, one of the lads. according to OH.
Our Rog is my uncle who played in a band that in 1964 played at Bramall Lane and a life time supporter of S.U. He no longer goes to matches, as early retirement due to osteoarthritis meant when the belt was tightened the season ticket went.

I asked OH if, seeing as Kev is an approachable chap, he would see if there was anymore photo´s of the band in their archives. Not only did Kev get on immediately to their archivist but returned the next day with a book S.U. a biography there on page 263 is a photo of my Uncle (and the band) because they were the 1st band ever to play at Bramall Lane. That book was for me. :-D :-D :-D
For Rog ..well he is going to get a copy of the book, any photo´s that they have AND a personal letter from Kev inviting him to join him and some of the old players in the directors box for a beer and chinwag about football, Sheffield and what lads talk about at football matches. ;-).

So Mr McCabe has my every lasting support even as an Owls supporter :-0.

Our Rog turns 70 this year, what a fantastic early pressie for him. :-D :-D

Take a bow Mr McCabe a Sheffield lad through and through, and a big Thank You my OH <3

How wonderful. It's cost him very little, but has made 2 people very happy.

It really has only cost him a short period of time, a couple of phone calls and a day watching the team. BUT he didn´t have to do it and yes he has made 2 well it will be 3 people very happy, 3 people because Rog´s grandson will also be included in the personal invite.

What a nice man. Well done him, he didn't have to do it, nothing to gain. Pity there are not more like him.

Ann OH often says that about the "clubites". That it´s a pity a few more of them were not in McCabes league. They have some of the footballers up there who treat the staff like servants expecting the best table at a moments notice and come out with "don´t you know who I am " when not served ahead of others. OH always says things like "yes I know who you are ..a very ignorant person" or " I don´t care wait your turn"

Uzzi, the answer to that is, 'This lad's lost his marbles. He's asking if I know who he is, poor boy.'

:-D :-D

kandj I have to say that I was amazed as we were just after some photo´s but Kevin ran away with the idea especially when he realised that Rog was the youngest member of the very 1st band that played at the ground and also a life time supporter. OH says that there is no saying what else he might come up with :-D and that Kev is up for this as oh what fun not just better keep the fans happy. :-0

A man who obviously has not lost sight of his roots. Kindness and a willingness to help others is a credit to Kevin McCabe and very many others in the football world could certainly take a leaf out of his book.

I quite agree with you Kandl, he actually bought SU when he could because it was the team he supported in his youth, he married a Sheffield lass when he was skint and is still married to her now. and as silly as it may sound but his heart is in Sheffield.
