I changed my email registered with friends reunited sometime ago, and not long ago had requested the password because I had forgotten it, so the current email address was registered there, and had looked at friends reunited just a few weeks ago; at that time I exchanged messages with Steve Pankhurst. He said they had - I forget the exact number - many millions of emails still to send out to members.
I wish I had copied some of the reminiscences that will have been deleted -(

Gins ......

who knows!

It is obviously built on the same sort of platform that the Packhams used back in 1999 to start FR, ad then expanded to GR in 2000/2001

We have no way of knowing how many changes have been made to update that platform .............. but there is no doubt that this is the Cinderella site.

I've said for years that I thought this would go ................ but I think they have to make us walk, or enough of us, so they can say the site is no longer worth it and should be shut down or rolled into FMP.

But how do you do that when the majority of members are in the free category?

One of my uni room-mates re-connected with her boyfriend from university, and they eventually married. But in their case, she was already widowed, and he was separated from his wife but not yet divorced .......... so I don't think that really counts as one of the ones that broke up one or both marriages.

They married in Australia about 2 years after they re-connected ........... but unfortunately she died less than a year after the marriage of a very aggressive cancer.

I didn't connect with many old school friends ................ and I soon realised why I had not kept in contact with them :-) . For example, I had never ost contact with the uni friend above.

I soon found the chat Boards ........... and made many new friends, some of whom I have since met in real life. I am still in contact with most of those on other sites and by email, and have even met several of them in real life. But that is the reason why I was on FR last night ...... there were still a number of people using the Chat groups, including a couple of my friends who do not go on any other social site. I guess I will be reduced to emails with those 1 or 2 instead of having the chat between several people.

The Boards on FR were fantastic back in the day ............. much like this site used to be but even more people involved.

There were people on there 24 hours a day, and topics would move 3 or 4 pages in the time it took you to type a 3 line post!

I remember a work colleague found an old flame soon after the site open opened. She flew somewhere in Europe to see him and it broke her marriage....one of many it would seem.

It went overnight ......... I posted on there late last night, UK time.

They never actually gave an exact date, although some people had heard Feb 27 as THE date.

BrightSolid handed it back to the original owner Steve Packham about 2 years ago because they couldn't make it work and give a profit. He found that the platform was still the one they had developed back around 2000, and correcting it and updating would cost far too much.

He is developing a new site called Liife ...... that is correct, Liife with 2 ii

It doesn't sound as if it is FR renewed but more of a lifestyle site.

Joy .............. do you still have the same email that you used when you registered with FR all those years ago??

I received an email about mid-January, although the initial announcement was apparently made last December.
