I fully agree with micro chipping, and yes Joy road kills should be checked also. It would also help with the stray and abandoned dogs.

After saying that I am thankful that 1 certain owner didn`t chip his dog :-D :-D :-D

*whistles* How much is that doggie on the balcony *

The Dogs Trust is also doing free microchipping at centres across the country. Details here.

I passed this on this evening to dog-owning grand-daughter - I see she has already posted on Facebook where the South Tyneside Council will do free micro-chipping

I agree with chipping
But also think all councils should scan all road kill
for chips which they dont :-( :-(

Should anyone be thinking of taking their dog(s) abroad try to remember exactly - or at least roughly - where in the neck/shoulders the chip has been inserted.
Two years ago I forgot. Our old lady is a big dog and on the return journey I spent a good few minutes 'hoovering' her with the customs hand-held scanner trying to get a reading of her pet passport number. Much to the amusement of the folk in the car behind ours.
Yes, they make you do it.

I was watching an item on The One Show the other day about the huge increase in stolen dogs - mostly much loved pets.

The chance of recovering them is much higher if the dog has been microchipped. This has been compulsory in NI for some time and, in an attempt to reduce the trade in stolen dogs, England, Scotland and Wales are following suit.

From 6 April it will be against the law to have a dog over 8 weeks old that has not been microchipped, and the penalty, if caught, is £500.00.

So, anybody that didn't know about this and hasn't yet got round to it, please get it done soon.
