Whilst it is true that hens, even 'proper' free range ones, get mites ( and to be fair they do look bright eyed in the photo) hens just shouldn't be housed like this. There are just too many in there to ensure health and that they all get outside as they are supposed to.

I remember a friend back in the 80s had been on a holiday to Norfolk and had been expecting the fields to be full of plump happy turkeys ( from a well know turkey meat seller ) and was shocked not to see them.

I'd better go...I'm about to rant on the short comings of the age generally and humanity in particular >>>>>

It's disgusting, and 'they' wonder why chickens are full of listeria!
One of the reasons I haven't eaten chicken for over 5 years - well, both the above, and the way they're slaughtered.
