No wonder the UK Government is moaning about the massive amount of food wasted for various reasons. :-S

Here is another one:

However the safety information refers to handling bunspice itself and not the minute quantities that exist in a single bun.

Other apparently innocuous substances can be dangerous, for example custard powder is explosive.

That's it then.......... I'm not having a Hot Cross Bun with Custard!

;-)

The ones I buy are never 'Hot'. ;-)

I was on a tour of a bakery some years back seems flour is explosive too, so no baking for you either! :-D
You may have to exist on water, no wait that is H2o! Hydrogen and oxygen are inflammable so why doesn't water burn?

There is an advert on TV showing a hot cross bun with bacon in it.
Delicious!!

Huia Report 15 Mar 2016 20:22

The Jews wouldnt eat those, Robert!!!

I dont know if you have chocolate easter buns over there. Hersheys make them and they are so delicious. They do have a cross on them, but no spice in them which suits me fine. I love them, so thank goodness they dont just make chocolate buns (sans cross) all the year round, or I would be rounder!

Huia, you and me both! Tesco have been selling double choc chip hot cross buns, two packs of six for £1.30 I think it is. They are scrummy, I warm one for 20 secs in the microwave and slice a banana with it, no butter needed.

Love the avatar pic. Have you stayed in touch?

I saw this last night.
I quite like hot cross buns, but, like chicken, and orange dyed fish, I can see me generally avoiding them :-(

Very soon, my diet will consist of chocolate and wine :-S

I like original hot cross buns ............. we'll buy a box of 6 before Easter, and have them hot for breakfast.

I'm still on my bland diet ...................

maggie ............ I think I might soon be on only the chocolate ...........as long as it is dark chocolate. Although my bland diet says chocolate isn't allowed :-(

I found the article on Faceache. My brother had it on his page, as did several of his FB "friends".

This morning, the article is gone. Removed by FB, on eveyone's page. I wonder why :-S

Maybe it's a hoax, but I don't want to risk it.

found this.......

https://www.reddit.com/r/IsItBullshit/comments/4a3945/isitbullshit_bun_spice_essence_33_hc4309_causes/

Someone says it's a small risk......... but it would be better if we were more informed about what we are eating!

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 16 Mar 2016 07:40

I actually saw it on a TV programme - I wasn't really watching it, but it showed the chemical.
Strangely, I can no longer find it :-S

However, admittedly it was many moons ago, I had a job dyeing herring yellow to make 'kippers'.
We HAD to wear rubber gloves, partly because we didn't want yellow hands, but mainly because prolonged contact with the dye could cause cancer.
The chemical has probably changed over the years, but I haven't eaten more than 4 'yellow' kippers over the past 30 years. :-S

Properly smoked ones are much better anyway :-D

I wouldn't put it past manufacturers to use a 'small risk' product in the name of excessive profit, more so now than in the past, I'm afraid.
:-(

That's very strange. I wonder why it's gone... something "they" don't want us to know about?

I just checked my brother's FB... the post is still there.... but for how long?

He has another interesting post.......... he uses a website for over 60s... and posted a photo of a chicken recipe from that site...... one of the ingredients is 2 TABLESPOONS of MSG!! He reckons it's a plot to get rid of early 60s people, so the governments won't have to pay pensions!

If anyone wants to see the photograph of the bottle of SuspectSpiceJuice, pm me and I'll let you know the FB page.

stick to the mighty bigmac then even molten copper cannot destroy it

http://indy100.independent.co.uk/article/what-happens-when-you-pour-molten-copper-on-a-big-mac-is-horrifying--b1iS0F_O1Z

warning: do not attempt to consume molten copper either at a BigMac vendor or at home, do not ask the bartender to add molten copper to drinks.

Why would 2 tablespoons (6 grams) of Monosodium Glutamate be a problem when the human body itself produces about 40 grams per day.

Many studies have tried to find links between MSG and various symptoms but all have failed.
