JUst because I have been re-reading 'Roots Schmoots' and have nothing intelligent or hopeful to say on the topic of refugees at the moment.

"Where can I go?" Leo Fuld

"Tell me, where can I go?
There's no place I can see.
Where to go, where to go?
Every door is closed for me.
To the left, to the right,
It's the same in every land.
There is nowhere to go
And it's me who should know,
Won't you please understand?
Now I know where to go,
Where my folk proudly stand.
Let me go, let me go
To that precious promised land.
No more left no more right.
Lift your head and see the light.
I am proud, can't you see,
For at last I am free:
No more wandering for me."

Hard to believe that that was written over 400 years ago and today one of the biggest news stories is the plight of the refugees.

One of my ancestors was a refugee, fleeing to England for his life. The Huguenots were not especially popular. The Bard though thought the refugees should be granted safe harbour ( which they were ).

You’ll put down strangers,
Kill them,
cut their throats,
possess their houses,
And lead the majesty of law in lyam
To slip him like a hound.
Alas, alas! Say now the King
As he is clement if th’offender mourn,
Should so much come too short of your great trespass
As but to banish you: whither would you go?
What country, by the nature of your error,
Should give you harbour?
Go you to France or Flanders,
To any German province, Spain or Portugal,
Nay, anywhere that not adheres to England:
Why, you must needs be strangers.
