After exporting a Gedcom File to my email address. I find that it makes no sense what so ever. How are you supposed to understand this.

You need a family tree program to be able to read it. There are various free versions you can down-load to your computer.

Other versions you could purchase have trial downloads to see if they are right for 'you'.

Someone has said that you can convert a gedcom to a spread sheet. If they spot this thread, they may be able to give you instructions.

Wilfred,

What exactly were you expecting to see?

Most of us are not supposed to understand it. The Gedcom (genealogical data communication) File was developed by the LDS as a means of transferring data from one system to another. It is a text file in a specified format. I presume that you opened it with Notepad or similar text editor software?

There has been a development of a system that could translate it into .xls or possibly .csv spread sheet. But I looked at it some years ago now, and it was in 'lite' format. I do not recall if it was ever finalised. Even then it was not designed to show a tree. It was to assist in checking/altering data within the .ged file.

Seems that it was developed further. But note the date. Almost 7 years ago.

Even if I did trust the site (to download) not sure what use such a listing would be.

I was expecting to see a printable copy of my tree. More fool me.
