THEN, after I threatened I was on to him and he had better beware, 20 minutes later, a different number but a voice very similar claims to be from TALK TALK.......... so I get onto talk talk, and they have put a block watch on the numbers I gave........

Well done, Sharron!! :-D

Sharron Report 26 Mar 2016 16:09

We did have some little git on a mobile ringing my OH about some advertizing he said he owed him for.

OH was in pain and had just had a toe-nail off so he started being apologetic. I hadn't, I wasn't. The company address I managed to get the little rat to think up on the spot was a road that was not in London after all. It was in Bolton.

http://who-called.co.uk/ has added a 0 at the front of Bobtanian's cold caller number.

Type: Landlines
pointer 01299 is the area code of Bewdley

Unlikely!

I have to agree, Sharron.
My sister who is less forthright than me, and sometimes upset by cold calls - but we mustn't 'beat up' the hapless cold callers, must we? Relations that are upset by them should surely 'grow a backbone' - but I digress.

My sister regularly puts on a quavery 'old lady' voice and asks cold callers that same question, Sharron. :-D

I do think it very sad that people who can speak two languages (when I can barely cope with one) have to resort to such a job to make a living.

maggiewinchester Report 23 Mar 2016 19:27

I'd say the cold callers I get are 50:50 male and female.
My letterbox is regularly overstuffed with junk mail, but now, my e-mail inboxes are also stuffed.
Anything addressed to my name on my e-mail address (the one I give when 'forced' to by retailers), either in my in-box or on letters, I know is spam.
A rellie who also has an inbox, can confirm this.

If I'm going to make an official complaint, I need to know which company is paying these people to harass me. I hardly think I'm 'beating up hapless cold callers'.
I may be showing annoyance at being disturbed, bothered, and disrupted - but I also do this to people who knock on my door for no reason, like charity collectors who knock after dark, 'chuggers', even people who walk into me whilst on their phone - and these people aren't trying to cost me a fortune in PC repairs!!

I can say, with my hand on my heart, that the milkman, newspaper 'boy' (Denny is well into his 70's, nor purveyors of Watchtower, have ever tried to hack into my bank account, or spread a virus onto my computer. Neither are they bothered about my income, age, marital status or type of work I do.
There is a vast difference between spammers and 'genuine' cold calls, and as my phone is set to block cold callers, surely it's only reasonable to presume the others are 'spammers'.
...Or is that logic too reasonable for a female?

No - more of a Grrr. :-)

Sharron

Sharron Report 23 Mar 2016 18:57

But do you really think that trampling your grass makes him an inglorious 'basterd?

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 23 Mar 2016 18:46

The milkman, in our case, has walked a path into our front grass! When we get round to having the drive re-done, we might use some of the old slabs to pave it properly for him ;-)

Sharron - one such 'lifestyle' survey took our address down incorrectly. It that's quoted, we know where it came from.

Sharron

Sharron Report 23 Mar 2016 18:40

What the hell is the milkman doing that is so wrong?

My OH took part in one of these surveys, he answered all the questions and we know which deliveries come from that interview. They are addressed to him by his name, which is Tiny Martian!

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 23 Mar 2016 18:11

Last week some bloke called me about a survey he was taking.

I let him ask the questions, but answered them with the reply 'No comment', or 'That's too personal' then they started to get really personal.
I asked when I was going to be asked my opinion for this 'survey' - he put the phone down.
Some of these questions were:
Whether I was in work, self employed or unemployed
What car I had
My income
my age
Married, Divorced or Single
Any illnesses

At no point was I rude, or perhaps it was rude of me not to actually answer the questions. Maybe I should have told him where I keep my spare key, and my card number. Poor man
:-(

Now they won't know what targeted rubbish to throw my way.

I had another one this morning (at 8:15). Woman on the other end this time, started off with the same spiel, then the first question.
I stopped her and pointed out I was called last week, and she may as well take my name off the list, if the firm didn't want an official complaint made, as this was now harrassment.

why on earth would anybody waste their time on cold callers?
it is much faster just to end the call

otoh beating up on hapless cold callers may brighten a dull day
these guys ( never seems to be a female ) seem to have taken the place previously occupied by inglorious basterds such as the errand boy, milkman, newspaper boy and the watchtower.

has anybody not noticed that as electronic advertising and canvassing has advanced junk mail and magazine inserts have diminished ?
a rellie who is a printer in the west country sure has, times are tough

mind the cat

We have the same guy calling us in Canada !

He got very annoyed when I said he must think I'm stupid if I was going to fall for what he was saying.....by this time he'd gone on for a few mins about why I should listen to him and he was promising me the world....except he thought I said he was stupid.......or the ones that phone from India for instance and they get actually say they wont talk to a woman put the man on the phone....needless to say they don't get our business either.

Rollo:

"Do not make nasty noises down the line or insult the cold caller. Although irritating these people are in much the same situation as low paid workers for garment factories in SE Asia or prawn fishermen."

Really? I should be nice to someone whose job it is to hack into my computer?
Be nice to someone who will happily remove money from my bank account if I used online banking?
Are you serious!!!

.....and no, I don't want some pious reply about how I SHOULD do this or that to stop this - you've undoubtedly done it and life is perfect.
The only people who could really stop it are the internet/phone companies or Governments - but they don't want to. I also don't want to spend my spare time as an unpaid admin/techno officer for these people.

As that is the case, I'll be as rude as I like, especially when I'm being perfectly civil, and they behave as they did in my first post.
