Bob we got rid of the perch outside the entrance hole as we new they didn't like that.

Mayfield. WE just want it to look nice and put that feminine touch on it just to make it "Home".

Us guys know the problem, you move into a nice new house and then the Mrs says "I've been thinking" next thing it's colour charts, kitchen brochures, a new porch and trudging around Dunelm Mills for cushions! :-D :-D :-D

sometimes they don't like an "alighting peg" /perch outside the hole, bigger birds can possibly use that to drag chicks out........I knocked mine off

hole size IS important......

Thanks for your help. I will take a look at the RSPB site and see what it says. This is the first time we have had birds interested in this nest so I will watch it and see what happens.

we also have a nest box for the robins but they are not interested in it. shame

Hi Jane, your question made me curious so I googled and there's lots to look at. Some say they are testing the strength or clearing insects or just making it how they want. Also a lot of * head banging * going on. The site was RSPB .

good luck finding out :-D

We have a bird box at the bottom of our garden for the blue tits to nest in, There are a couple of birds looking at it. The strange thing is that they are trying to strip the wood around the entrance hole away. Why would they do this?
