:-( no not that one!

Went out today to try and buy some new curtains and a lamp, so looked at several 'home' shops, only to find row upon row of shades of grey curtains, not a bright or spring-like colour to be seen anywhere ( the only alternative was beige :-0 ). Dull, dull, dull!

Do you like 'neutrals' lol or do you crave colour? seems odd because there are more paint colour choices than ever.

Is Grey the new 'Black'?

'Fashionable' colours do tend to go in cycles, promoted by interior designers who want to sell more 'stuff'.

We tend to go for pastilles but add contrasting cushions, lampshades, bed coverings etc.

lol +++DetEcTive+++ "Is Grey the new 'Black'? " is what Dan said.

As the curtains were for him he wasn't impressed, we did get a wooden lamp base and purple shade for it though, he likes a bit of colour too :-)

At least you're getting there. Unfortunately, if you're tryng to tone things together, there are so many hues it starts getting frustrating.

Look online at Dunelm and B and M if you have those stores nearby, to see what they have to offer, there are some colours.

It's very easy to make curtains if you have access to a sewing machine, and to make separate blackout/thermal linings that hook in to save fading as well. You don't even have to hem the liner if you don't want to.

Dunelm was one we went into Liz, but nothing 'grabbed' him lol,

I do have a sewing machine but my eyes aren't really good enough, and nor at the moment is my hand lol ( actually no body part is much cop , to cap it all my back keeps 'locking' and I ended up hobbling along like the Hunchback of Notre Dame today :-( :-| )

I am, at this very moment re-decorating my stairs! :-D
Unfortunately, most of the stair well is double height :-|

I'm painting it a very boring white. This is a change from the previously boring Magnolia, but Johnstones white paint was on offer, and it's a really good paint :-)

However, the walls going up the stairs will be festooned with frames holding a myriad of things - old song sheets, old embroidered book marks, maps etc, so a neutral colour is best.

As for curtains - I have blinds. Either wooden ones, or, in the kitchen, I now use IKEA Schottis pleated blinds. These cost £3, and instead of wasting time and money cleaning the grime off them, I replace them.

Joan teal is nice with greys. I think my aversion to it stems from when we moved to Wales and the lounge was all grey, aside from the black carpet lol, it was just depressing rather than elegant, which grey can be i acknowledge, I think a lot depends on the light also, the room we need the curtains for is north facing.

I've gone off magnolia too Maggie :-) Our stairwell is white, more because it saved worrying about cutting in, but it is light.

50 shades of.......... I thought you were talking about my hair (I'm way overdue for a tweak).

Our lounge & dining rooms have black curtains.... with gold (barely there) swirls on them. Bedrooms are gold colour......... kitchen has NO coverings, so we can appreciate the view (nobody can see in our kitchen window, unless they're in a helicopter lol)

As Gwynne says, ouch Rose it all sounds painful. I hesitate to ask have you seen a doctor? <3 <3 :- <3

Rambling Report 7 Apr 2016 20:19

lol Ann, I have seen 3 different doctors in the last few weeks ;-) ( more than I'd seen in the preceding 30 years I think lol). The first ( for my hand) led with the question "what do you think might help?" erm.... isn't that why HE is the doctor? lol so I am waiting for physio which I should "hear about within the next 6 weeks".
The arthritis in knees is ongoing but getting worse. My back has been dodgy since looking after mum, but it's never 'gone' quite as badly as this before. Like I said, just a wreck lol.

Have a look at this. It's Debenhams, so there should be a branch within reach if you want to see them before buying.
