I just tried logging into FR for the first time in ages; only to get a message saying that the site closed down on the 26th of February :-(

You should have received an email, by the latest, in the early New Year. Perhaps you've changed your linked email account or it went into 'Spam'?

There were a number of threads on this board at the time. People were getting confused because FR was originally part of GR. GR members were worried that GR was closing. As you've realised, it's not - after changing hands several times, GR is now owned by Brightsolid. FR was handed back to the original owner to see if he could revive its fortunes. He couldn't hence the closure.
