Personally I think Win10 is overrated. Upgraded from Win 7 that I was happy with because of insistent plugging of Win 10 by Microsoft. Before Win 7 I was ok with
WinXP but MS were ceasing the systems upgrades (that some regard as Spyware)
If MS have such control of our computers through the software to the extent that they can upgrade without our consent then we are all pawns of a giant financial concern.

To Brenda, thank you for having the patience to teach me on line how to cut copy and paste. I appreciated it then and still do

Well, here's an update on my previous post and a word of warning!!

A day after Windows 10 had installed itself I found I could not access the internet anymore and all my desk top icons had disappeared. :-S OH's laptop was working fine and he could access the internet. I tried a few different ways and managed to get onto the amazon site via the APP tile, but the layout was different. Also the screen would freeze while it was trying to load the internet. In the end tonight I phoned the Technical support I subscribe to and asked them to restore my PC back to Windows 8.1 that I had before. After trying some things they told me that some of the windows system files were damaged/corrupted but eventually started up restoring my old Windows 8.1 system for me. All looked good and my old start screen appeared, but then Windows 10 started to download again without me touching anything!!! I rang the Tech support again and they set things to stop it happening or for any windows 10 updates to be installed and it seems ok again now. It seems they are determined we should all have Windows 10 but I'm sticking with my windows 8.1 now!!

"I have had my bird and pest control here again today to take down the gulls nest and 3 eggs"

Have they obtained a license? If not the action is illegal.
Gulls being noisy or making a mess on the roof is not a reason for grant of license.

After all that I think I'll leave it be for a while.
For the things I use it for, like printing and some storage I can't deal with problems at the moment.
FAO Rollo......I have had my bird and pest control here again today to take down the gulls nest and 3 eggs.put a falcon on the grass and the birds went wild...netting hopefully being installed next Tuesday......I love the Great Orme but it's a bit too wild for me...going to Llandudno tomorrow, but only to shop!

Oh no Stella...... I hope that won't happen to me, or I will be shouting HELP
to our grandson. Why do they do that??!! It's like they have the right to
over ride our wishes. Not good at all imho.

Windows 10 is a good OS if you are an inveterate Windows user. OTOH if you already have Windows 7 and don't wish to join in the connected world of Microsoft (Azure cloud services, Bing, mobile phones, Office365 online, Skype, Store, Cortana ) then there is truth to tell not a lot of reason to upgrade. Few large scale biz users have any near term plans to UG.

Windows 10 does have better security then Windows 7 but nowhere near as good as with a 3rd party package which are of course avail to all versions of Windows. The OS is more efficient but you'd never notice day to day. The user interface is a fairly radical departure from Windows 7 some get along fine with it others not. The Edge browser is much better than the old IE but a country mile behind Chrome. Firefox are bringing out a a radical update soon.

There are two major downsides.

ONE As Maggi says the OS is full of various "phone home" services monitoring what you are doing "in order to improve your experience". They are especially numerous on the "free" update version. Most can be disabled fairly easily but not all. It is much easier to control the extent of "phone home" with a fresh install from DVD or USB drive.

TWO Windows 10 does not permit unsigned drivers. If your PC is not mainstream and/or is more than three years old then you could hit driver problems. Sometimes these can be sorted out by DL drivers from the OEM web site. Sometimes the only option is to go through the convoluted process of installing unsigned drivers.

It is more difficult to dual boot Windows10 with Linux than its predecessors.

So there you go. If your main stuff is done with iPad and iPhone I'd not bother and turn off the Windows10 update option. As it stands right now that means turning off all automatic updating and picking out critical updates and install them manually.

My own 2c is that the writing is on the wall for the classic desktop PC whatever Microsoft do.

PS: There is a sheep farm for rent at Gt Orme's Head only £ 1 pa. No seagulls on the roof.

I keep deleting the offer to have Windows 10 installed. I am happy with what I have and can't see any benefit to changing, although my grandson says that I should.

Oh to have the confidence and technical expertise of the young!

I'm holding my breath - I'm away at the moment on holiday (with my Google android tablet) and our trusted computer guru has taken my windows 7 PC to convert it.
OH had to replace his PC recently and has Windows 10 (said guru's guidance!) Seems to have had no problems. Must order Windows 10 for Dummies for when I get back!

Thanks everyone .I had the same message about free download.
Think I might give it a try...just don't want to lose some data, which it promises it will not lose it.
It's not as if I'm on there much.Find the iPad easier.I have had my iPad 2 for 5 years and I have a mini iPad which fits in my bag and an iPhone 4....have been considering a mac book ,but would I use it much?
Maybe just more compatible, but im happy most of the time with this technology..we all get a bit frustrated I think when it doesn't always work as you want...patience is sometimes very necessary, but I would hate to be without it,especially living alone it does help.

Mine flashed up the download countdown while I was out of the room and had started installing it by the time I got back. :-S I've had no trouble finding everything though so that was a relief. I think I read somewhere that it will be free till some time in July and then will be charged for after that.

I, a few weeks ago downloaded 10 and then it went haywire. Appealed to son who told his Mummy off for downloading. He came home for a weekend and managed to get rid of it and install my old system. My PC is only 2 yrs old.

My new laptop had Windows 7 on it . I kept getting a message saying there was a free upgrade to Windows 10 . I finally bit the bullet and clicked on the upgrade box

It has upgraded with no loss of anything I had stored on it and it seems very similar to windows 7 so not too hard to find my way around

My old PC still runs on Windows XP with Google chrome as the browser ,wish I could upgrade that too :-)

Like yourself I use the iPad and phone more than the PC and laptop

I believe I have seen threads on here discussing windows 10 but can't find them.
I don't use my computer much anymore ,preferring to use my iPad so apart from deleting emails and syncing my iPads and iPhone don't use it much.
I went to do my weekly clean up and it was saying that I should update to Windows10 so I would like some thoughts anyone has on this.
It says I won't lose anything,but till I know a bit more a a not sure I need to.
