I am looking for information about the Piano Fore factory and in particular the Bailey family.

Where?

Brian

Brian Report 19 May 2016 08:16

The factory was in Hammersmith, Sheppard's Bush area. The Baileys moved around that area and I believe some still live in the area.

The factory was called Cadby Hall and this link tells you all about it, but if your ancestor was an employee you might not find much about him personally.

Brian what is it you want to know?

There are various possible sites if you google 'PianoForte factory, Hammersmith', but probably not of much help if there is something specific you want to know about the Bailey family.

Brian

have you tried googling for Pianoforte factories in Hammersmith?

You might also want to extend that search to elsewhere in London, as the family just might not have lived in the immediate neighbourhood of where they lived.

That's all that any of us would do!!

You MIGHT be lucky and find a link to a site that has the history of the factory, including a list of important workers there.

As I say, that's all that any of us would be able to do!

Thank you I have been googling the wrong thing. I was looking at Pianoforte London. I live in Sydney Australia and I have no knowledge of the area. I know that family members lived in the area of the factory and that some still do. My grandfather left London in January 1912 but he must have kept in touch with his family. I did not have much to do with my grandfather as he lived in South Australia and we lived in Sydney. What I was hoping
was to find family who may have been on here as except for a couple of relatives that I have found who live in Acton I have no idea were they have gone.

Brian ......

To find out if any members have your family members in their trees, you have to search the trees for them.

It is extremely unlikely that any such person will see your post ............. I once estimated that less than 1% of the members even knew about the Boards, and that might have been a high estimate!!

To search ............

Go to Search in the top right hand of your screen

Hold your mouse over it and a drop down box appears.

Click on Search All Member Trees

Enter a name in the box, and any other information asked for that might help, and click Submit

If that name occurs in any trees, a list of them will occur

You then have to send a message to each individual tree owner ...... but PLEASE do not just use the automatic "Open Your Tree" message that GR suggests. Most of us do not respond to those messages.

Explain briefly why you are contacting them

Then wait for a reply ................. keep checking in your Sent Messages to see if the message has been opened

If there is a green envelope to the left of the name, the message has not been opened

If there is no envelope, the message has been opened.

But do be aware that you might not get any reply, or not for a long time!

GR does not delete any member trees or posts unless they themselves do it, or someone who knows their password and access information does it for them. So there are a lot of trees belonging to dead, disabled, no longer interested folk, or to people who have changed their home email addresses but not notified GR.

Good luck
