re number of messages shown erroneously

I e mailed support to ask them to delete the number 3 showing over messages. The following is the reply. Not sure it makes sense to me but it may help somebody.

When in the inbox if at the right hand side in the Search Messages option you can select [All Messages] to narrow your messaged down to unread only this shows the messages.
