Is anyone else finding that Firefox is doing continual updates? All the time I am trying to add to either Genes or facebook my typing is constantly interrupted and ends up gibberish. When I check task management I find Firefox is constantly updating.

I have checked my browser health status etc and there doesn't seem to be anything i can do. I just wondered if anyone else had the problem.

I have to add that I have been typing in word and C&P and typing in word is Ok so it doesn't seem to be the keyboard. :-S

They are background updates as far as i can tell. when I look at task manager most of it is completely still but firefox is showing figures going up to 30. Sometimes explorer is running too but I only use Firefox. It has been particularly bad the past 3 days.

Try going into help (on firefox) then at the bottom it should say, about firefox, it might give you the option to do a manual update.

You can control how and when Firefox applies its updates as follows.

Tools, Options, Advanced, Update

Then select auto, manual or never.

The page also allows you to see the update history. Mine shows 4 in June so far and 6 in May.

Just because Task Manager shows activity for FF, doesn't mean it must be updating. Much depends on what it is you are doing. e.g as I am typing this FF is using between 5 & 10% of cpu. However, opening another tab and loading the BBC website causes it to jump to 40% while it is loading the page.

Thank you IGP, that was what I was looking for. I have done that with the options for updates. I did wonder if it was having facebook and Genes and Gmail all open was what causes the action. However, yesterday I gradually shut them down and the action didn't change. I am wondering if something running in the background is the problem. But I can't find out anything that is running. And, believe me we have searched.

Glad you posted that Rollo. Although I/we haven't delved too deeply into the reason, we've been finding that 'something' has been grabbing the memory.
Some sites initially stall eg FMP & FS.
'Hanging' Media sites such as online papers might result in a pop up window asking if we want to stop plug-ins.
I'd thought it might have been our PC fighting off adverts, but perhaps it's FF v Flash?
