yeah JL I do take it that way.

Along with the "no hurry" comments from Boris & Gove it looks as if they may be using the ref. in order to drive real negs. and a snap GE. Under British law a GE would trump any referendum under a previous govt. If the markets calm down and even rise slowly next week then you can read the tea leaves.

According to what I heard earlier, it's likely that EU legal eagles are looking through the T & Cs for whether the EU itself can trigger article 50.

I haven't seen that version of 'Alice' but anything with Gene Wilder in is usually worth watching :-)

Rollo, I don't understand why Liam Fox is casting doubt on triggering Article 50 at all. Its wording is so obscure that it seems to me that if DC's successor dug his/her heels in and made friends the rest of Europe could make it extremely difficult to part from the EU. That could have been its deliberate intent.

Does anyone else read it in that way?

Meanwhile, Liam Fox cast doubt on the necessity of triggering the article 50 clause of the Lisbon treaty that sets out the legal process for a country’s EU withdrawal.

“A lot of things were said in advance of this referendum that we might want to think about again and that [invoking article 50] is one of them,” said the Conservative MP.

“I think that it doesn’t make any sense to trigger article 50 without having a period of reflection first, for the cabinet to determine exactly what it is that we’re going to be seeking and in what timescale.
