Last night, as I was about to shut my lappy down, a huge Windows 10 announcement appeared and covered the whole of my screen.

a smaller Count Down one first and then the complete screen was covered.

A click on section saying something to the effect of "No Thanks ... please do not ask me again" or download now.

Well I had to click on the no thanks to get rid of it. Then it said- If you change your mind, go to www...... etc! and I had to click on the OK button to get rid of it to shut down!

I still have the little white Windows 10 logo on my task bar? is it called?
It now has a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on it! :-0 :-0

I shall wait to see what happens next! :-D :-D :-D

Ann, sorry about the delay in replying, but I Googled Windows 7 and it was about ½ way down the screen.

It was introduced in 2010, so that will make it 10 years old if they do what it said.

AnninGlos Report 22 Jul 2016 09:00

Thanks Annx and jem I think I will stick with 7 if I can for now anyway.

Ann in G, if I remember rightly it was windows system files that were corrupted. It definitely wasn't excel. The helpline people just couldn't fix it and were going to have to remove windows 10 and reload it again so I said 'don't bother reloading it, give me back windows 8.1 instead' so they did!

Windows 10 is OK with better built in security than Windows 7. It will break some stuff which was OK on Win7. Do not upgrade laptops unless you have oem drivers. I like the interface. It has 101 ways of spying on you especially if u r into Skype windows mobile or cortana. If you are happy with with Win7 you'll be fine staying with it. The first it is not a service pack lol is due soon and has some cool features. I have ug my own computers but the thundering herd of biz desktops will run Win7/Linux till the day they die.
Good luck

Thank you everyone :-)

David, I have AVAST free antivirus which is actually very good, and has warned me on quite a few occasions about dangerous sites etc.

But I have noticed when Microsoft is updating that quite a number of them are also security updates, hence my slight concern.

Jem, if you are worried about viruses there a few free anti virus programmes you can choose from.

Andysmum Report 21 Jul 2016 16:24

Windows 7 is going to be supported until 2020, so I would stick with it.

Jem, in that case stick with Windows 7 :-)

It is in Microsoft's interest for people to switch, not necessarily in the people's interest.

Good Afternoon Everyone :-)

Thank You all for your posts with your experiences of Windows 10!:-)

I'm still undecided. It's the time limit factor that puts pressure on!

I want to stay with what I'm happy with. Windows 7 does everything that I need a computer for. What I'm worried about, is if Microsoft stop updating Windows 7, especially as many of these updates are security ones, will this leave me vulnerable to virus attacks etc?!

The clock is ticking however, and so I will need to make my mind up soon!

:-D :-D :-D

ps... Thanks Barbra <3
Had lots of "cwtches" from Babes yesterday :-D :-D <3

Hi Everyone :-)

Sorry I'm very late responding to all your posts. I had unexpected visitors who have only just gone home!

I'm trying to post from my phone, and not good at it, so I will post tomorrow from my laptop.

Thanks Elizabeth for showing me your lovely Great Grandson :-)
Having read your post better on my lappy rather than my phone (another technological advancement that I am learning:-D) I'm realising that it is not the one you wanted to show me though.
