Try ordering from the Ideal Shopping Channel. They have their own range of clothing sizes so for ladies who are larger than they ought to be.

So when you order a size 16, it fits a size 30, and so on.....!

zips became really essential during the war,
aircrew suffering burns could just about manage zips.......but not buttons

Too much information there Joan.

Mens trousers and jeans had button flies before they had zips Joan. 19th century fall front trousers must have been more of a faff to deal with :-0

My gripe with the long outdated gender specific fastenings is womens trouser zips being 'right over left' as in cardigans etc. For goodness sake! Women weren't wearing trousers - let alone front fastening ones - when the ladies had maids to dress them. When I make jeans/trousers for myself I always put the zip in left over right because, like the majority of the population, I am right handed.
Can't for the life of me think why this design flaw exists :-|

:-)

Womens sizing is utter nonsense Brian

As for 'one size fits all' and 'small, medium and large! :-S :-S

Mens’ buttons are on the right side because men have always tended to dress themselves and most men (and women, for that matter) are right-handed.

Womens’ buttons are on the left side because years ago (say, during the Victorian Era), the women that could afford fancy clothing with a bunch of buttons would rely on maids to help dress them. So, if a servant (most of whom, naturally, would be right-handed) is going to routinely buttoning up a shirt/dress for someone else, that servant is going to prefer to have the buttons on their right side (which would be the left side of the garment).

Why are the buttons not on the same side for both sexes? So much stuff is unisex nowadays anyway!
Why do female clothing use a numbered sizing system? There seems to be no standardisation and when ordering online you just don't know what you will get.
So much gets returned because OH can't get into something labelled as a size 18 but a size 12 trouser falls off.
Male clothing is much simpler, if you order a 34" waist and 20" inside leg, for example, that's what turns up and it fits first time!
