If you send a message to someone on here, with regards to one of their Ancestors, and you think there may be a connection, does the person get an email alert to et them know that someone has messaged them pls? I have sent someone a message, and am anxious to hear back from them, but havent had a reply yet? thanks

Yes, Beverley, but you can also see whether they've opened their messages.

Remember it's summer-holiday season though.

GR will send a notification to their registered email address telling them that they have a message waiting for them on the site. They have to log in to retrieve it.
Even if they are non- subscribers, they will be able to reply to you.

Problems occur when
- they've changed their 'usual' email address & not altered it on GR. This coud be because they've changed Internet providers.
- they've lost interest & consigned all emails from GR to Spam
- they have died or are too infirm to take an interest in FH. GR never deletes dormant accounts.
- they could be away on holiday or in hospital

You can check to see if a message has been opened by looking on GR in your 'Sent messages' box. Unread ones have an envelope icon next to them.
As a rule of thumb, the larger the membership number, the greater the chance that you'll get a reply.
Don't despair. Some posting members have said they've received a reply months after the initial contact.
