We've had may phone calls this year for the 'Tax Office' threatening us with immediate arrest if we, or our lawyers, did not contact the number given.

This was obviously a pre-recorded message appearing to originate from NSW (02)

The link is to the Aussie Government's ScamWatch site. Apparently VOIP is used to make it appear that the calls are made from within Australia.

I have been targeted by duct cleaners for a long time, and yes the callers are clearly calling from India ... with names like 'Sean' ...

so the number they are calling from is being 'spoofed'

I recently watched a very old episode of Heartbeat that I had on videotape and it was when Greengrass took over a deceased's chimney cleaning business and said David would be his young chimney cleaner ... if he lost a few pounds. Hiring himself out for weddings, for luck, was a big part of the business.

So this will be my ploy next time the duct cleaners call.

Oh yes please! just what I need for my wedding next month!

Annoying enough getting cold calls, but can't they work out the time difference?

We got a cold call from the US (offering a holiday!) at about 3 in the morning!!!!



Got a cold call last week, telling me I may be entitled to compensation because I may have been in an accident (overuse of the "may" from them).

I lost my temper and used some words I don't usually use!!!! The last time I was involved in an accident (somebody ran up the back of me, while I was waiting at a red light) was well over 30 years ago.

I have had 2 today on my mobile....in the end I blocked them :-|

There are lots of Asians in Melbourne.In fact it is very multi cultural.
I think they are now supposed to give you their numbers,but I still have the odd unavailable.
It's more annoying when they wake you up!

called this morning, 7:15 - I was fast asleep - I panicked as I thought something had happened to my son - was extremely rude to them

called again this morning at 10:15 - that's when I went to town on them

googled the number and discovered it originates in Melbourne, not Oz methinks as the caller on each occasion sounded distinctly Asian and there were stacks of complaints on there, many for today and yesterday
