£230? That's brilliant news Sharron, and for a worthy charity.
Whats the betting there'll be considerably more once 'the locals' have handed over their contributions :-D

Oh don't be so silly!!! LOL

I'm sure you'll insist that you do have a sense of humour. :-D

Snarky -

"I have a mental image of crooked pinkies and "what's she doing dear? has she got nits?"

Sounds a bit snarky to me.

I genuinely meant to be fair to the charity. I'm going to one at a school near here.

My dentist, who has had a fair few bob out of me over the years, has paid £50 and I am £30 over my target now!

Island

Island Report 30 Aug 2016 17:10

Oh dear.

As I see 'to be fair' as a much used sentence starter these days - rather like 'basically'' - I did wonder. Though 'to be fair' I don't think anyone is going to be put off attending a MacMillan coffee morning that easily.

Feel free to expand on 'snarky' though.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 30 Aug 2016 16:43

"I don't understand 'to be fair'."

To be fair was being fair to the charity and the concept of the coffee morning which is country wide and been happening for years. I wouldn't want people put off supporting them by snarky comments about coffee mornings.

Sharron Report 30 Aug 2016 15:23

I announced that my head was available for shaving should anybody be doing anything for McM. Immediately the great and the good began to plan a coffee morning to coincide with the big one on the 30th but the hall was already booked for that date.

Although I did try to explain that I was actually part of a different campaign it was not picked up on. I guessed that they were all considerably older than me and even less au fait with computers if that is possible so I kind of went along with them because, after all, they were being kind in organizing anything, me being hard pressed to organize a box of Oxos.

Unfortunately, I thought it might not be a bad idea to serve bacon sandwiches and even solicited a free supply of bacon.

The not listening to what I said about the campaign was just an indication of everything else that was not listened to and they were making decisions on subjects I had mentioned to one of the ladies but not the real content of the conversation, just the chapter headings so to speak.

Somehow, my head shave became a distraction in their far more important coffee morning and I was told to organize my own event with the bacon and all the sponsors I didn't know I had in the next village, and the darts team i knew nothing about but apparently had coming to the coffee morning.

so, taking my bacon, i decided to take my head as well and thought I would leave them to deal with the imaginary darts team!

Island Report 30 Aug 2016 15:02

The head shave doesn't have to be on 30th Sept so I don't understand 'to be fair'.

I'd assume the coffee morning in your village was a regular weekly event.

Funds are needed all year round.

Sharron

Sharron Report 30 Aug 2016 13:45

But their coffee morning is not even going to be on the right day because the church hall was already booked.

I might start calling myself Bald Sharron on here when it is done because people do tend to use the proper spelling and mine has two rs. I know there is a Sharon on here who really won't be wanting flack from my capers and I have been wondering for a long time how to make a bigger differentiation between us.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 30 Aug 2016 11:51

To be fair Macmillan coffee mornings are an annual event, held all over the country on the same day. Widely advertised on TV every year and bringing in loads of cash.

They are held all over the place, including in schools, workplaces and pubs. So a huge variety of people take part. People shouldn't be put off attending one locally if they can.

Dawnie from here used to do them.

I quite understand why Sharon has changed her plans, though.

Island Report 30 Aug 2016 11:18

Good move Sharron. The coffee morning just isn't you is it - come on, genteel? ;-) :-D

I have a mental image of crooked pinkies and "what's she doing dear? has she got nits?"

Get up the pub and make it a fun event.

A few locals here braved the shave. We have a lively FB group so it was easy to gather interest and each set up online donation accounts. That way they were in control with no faffing from others. Are you able to also use FB?

Nudging this back up. Come on folks splash the cash for a worthy cause <3

Sharron

Sharron Report 27 Aug 2016 11:23

This is why I wanted the bacon sandwiches at the coffee morning, because I have left messages at the scrapyard and with some iffy types who go to car rallies.

The whole set up of the coffee morning is aimed at the women who go to coffee mornings, old, genteel and at least two of the committee have never had a bacon butty.

I feel that all classes suffer from cancer and all classes would like to do all they can to help but may not wish to go as far as having coffee and cake with posh old biddies.

Allan Report 27 Aug 2016 06:49

Perhaps they have sold their birthrights for a mess of potage.

I know that I'm a pleb, but I'd sooner be in the pub with a pint and a bacon butty than at a Village Coffee morning; probably the way I was dragged up ;-)

If it is busy, hopefully you will get more money from casual onlookers in a pub anyway as well as get people who have sponsored you

Sharron

Sharron Report 26 Aug 2016 22:58

They suggest I have a barbrcue with the bacon but it is quite important to do all the fundraising when the hair comes off because it really has to be a one off event.

Landlord is happy to do the bacon.

It felt like my shave was just going to be a bit of a distraction in a really average coffee morning. I think they may have confused bacon with heroin or something.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 26 Aug 2016 22:05

Don't blame you Sharron. Fancy making such a fuss when someone is doing such a brave thing for a very good cause. <3

I have had so much bloody grief from the committee that I have just been down the pub and booked it for the 12th in there.
