Does that hate crime break down how many people were attacking people that voted for brexit as well as those voting against.
Hate crime always happens in this case brexit was used as the reason rightly or wrongly.
Don't for a minute think I agree with any hate crime

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 1 Sep 2016 13:23

Police say that hate crime rose 57% in the days after the vote.

and "42 per cent more hate crime was reported to them in the last two weeks of June than there had been in the corresponding period of 2015."

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-racism-uk-post-referendum-racism-hate-crime-eu-referendum-racism-unleashed-poland-racist-a7160786.html

So some of it *is* due to Brexit.

Caroline

Caroline Report 1 Sep 2016 13:11

So I think you've proven my point, it's not due to Brexit it's worldwide to some degree !!

Brexit must succeed...umm maybe because the majority voted for it and the Government is meant to follow their instructions maybe......

I am sure many felt despair when we joined the European Community but we survived.

supercrutch Report 1 Sep 2016 13:05

Now I have personally experienced verbal abuse.

Firstly when I lived in Germany by the 40 - 50 age group (until I answered their taunts about 'Auslander' in German). That was in the early 70s

In Wales in the mid 80s there was (and still is) in some areas a deep distrust of the English. We fought hard to fit in and succeeded. My children when visiting rural pubs were subjected to muttered abuse but stunned those muttering by answering them in their first language WELSH.

In France quite often service staff refuse to speak anything other than French. Doesn't worry me as I speak for everyone.

In Australia I was picked on quite often when I spoke, you live with it.

In England there is obviously a better class of racist scum who make it their business to be as obnoxious as possible.

“It’s not the despair … I can stand the despair. It’s the hope.”

Brexit must succeed! T May

why? and if it does not ?

Sharron Report 1 Sep 2016 12:52

It would seem odd to be asked to leave a pub you use regularly because other people are behaving in an anti-social manner.

Caroline

Caroline Report 1 Sep 2016 12:42

So you're saying all people with accents are just being targeted are you ? then it's a really serious problem. Or as I questioned before is there more to this story...

Sharron

Sharron Report 1 Sep 2016 12:39

I have never been in a Steinbeck novel.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 1 Sep 2016 12:30

Statistics show that Brexit has increased it, Caroline. Let's hope it settles down And Rollo's OH can go about her business without being subjected to abuse.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 1 Sep 2016 12:23

no rose of sharon then never mind

Caroline

Caroline Report 1 Sep 2016 12:22

Oh Rollo change the record please......there's always been hatred Brexit didn't start that; France and many countries have hatred too and if not the disadvantaged then the blame goes to religious groups or something...no country is perfect by a long mile.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 1 Sep 2016 12:20

Didn't see your original thread, Rollo. I'm sorry your OH had been subjected to abuse, according to police reports it has become more common since the Brexit vote.

Pathetic behaviour to pick on a woman.

Sharron

Sharron Report 1 Sep 2016 12:11

Sharon was not involved in your post in any way. She very rarely posts at all.

I, on the other hand, often put a thread on the board.

" see you have deleted your post Rollo accusing people of not caring because only 2 people replied.
If you had kept to the subject of the appalling murder it may have given people the opportunity of replying. Also if I wanted I sermon I would go to church, unlikely as an atheist "

I did not delete it. As Sharon will tell you the RR has moved on from RRs and is now deleting posts altogether from which maybe we can infer RR is a member of staff somewheer insaide the Beano organisation. Given general cultural attitudes in Dundee ( not shared by my rellie a recently retired lecturer from the Uni ) no surprise there then.

Anyway getting back to yr beef yes, I did post that a good while after my post there ha been a stunning silence on the boards which usually rush to comment on , say, the life and times of media not-all-that-celebrities withing seconds of the BBC saying the same thing. Yes, I did infer that there is a great deal of hypocracy especially from people who see no shame in describing themselves as brexiters. "Leave" at least had some dignity.

I have had a good measure of support by PM so "fear" is spreading its chilling tentacles.

There have already been several deaths as a consequence of the hatred whipped up by Farage, Gove and their merry men. It is only a matter of luck and timing which seperate these from an ever increasing tide of petty violence, abuse and criminal destruction such as tyre slashing, keying, window breaking etc etc. According to the police the increase in such incidents is nearly 50% since Jun24. Thousands more are unreported. For the post part the police do nothing.

I don't care if you want a sermon or not Job 15 is bang on the button.

I have to endure bizarre nonsense from the moron T May and her acolytes every day of the week. It will all end in blood and tears. She uis whipping up a whirlwind which will destroy her and her party - which does not bother me any - but will also bring ruin and hate to our country which I do care about. Even worse in the preverse way in which British politics works the post coalition Tories have generated a magnetic opposite in the form of Jez Corbyn so that for those who believe in law and democracy the door is jammed shut for most.

Happily we will move back to France :-) which has it s problems and evil politicians too but at least the disadvantaged are not blamed for them.
