Those lights are very dangerous for your eyes and it's only a matter of time before they start aiming at planes or cars, they need stopping now.

we had some problems at the house next door a number of years ago ................ the owners lived there for about 6 years and then built a house in another part of town, but kept this one and rented it out. They'd been good neighbours.

The first lot of renters seemed to be 2 couples (a 2 bedroom house), possibly 2 brothers. However it turned out that there must have been a split from a 3rd woman, as we soon had shouting (shrieking) outside at all hours, insults flying back and forth etc. There was a path down the outside of the house to the back that went about 3' from our bedroom window. Almost every night at about 3 am, we'd hear feet thumping down that path, a car engine start up, and be left running as the feet thumped back to the front. The car engine would then run for about 30 minutes or so, before the feet thumped to the back again, and the car was driven away. The final straw for ourselves and the neighbour on the other side was when there was the woman shrieking outside, and an ashtray came flying oout through the front window, glass flying every which wayl

Vic, neighbour, phoned and asked if we had been bothered, and then said we should at least tell the owner that damage was being done. So it was arranged that he would phone, and then I would phone later.

Vic almost immediately phoned back, and said not to do anything. He'd been accused of being racist, and called some very unpleasant names.

Vic was from the Caribbean, married to a Filipeno lady, renters were from the Middle East with western wives, the owners of the house were from Hong Kong.

Vic was one of the least racist people I'd ever met!!

So the renters stayed until the 12 month lease was up, although I never heard the shrieker again, then the owner raised their rent by the maximum allowed ..... so they left.

That turned out to be his pattern ............. he always raised the rent at the 12 month mark. The trouble was that he seemed to alternate between choosing good tneants and bad tenants ....... although those first ones were the only ones that bothered the neighbours. The other bad ones were a bother to him .............. doing damage that took 6 months to repair, doing a mid-afternoon flit after 6 months and owing 3 month rent, etc. I actually saw them packing a trailer but didn't go out to say "what are you doing??"

The good tenants always moved because they weren't willing to pay the amount of increase.

That was until the last ones who were excellent tenants, there for about 10 years ......... husband bargained no rent increase in return for him doing work around the house.

Now that house has been demolished because it was in such bad state, a new one built, and the owner's son is living in it with his young family of 2 girls and twin boys due later this month.

Tempting.......might put off unwanted cold callers too !

No one expects all neighbours to be best mates, but I'm happy keeping my head down being quiet but polite with the neighbours. Kids know they can come in if no key and no one home, take in parcels for each other etc.......except this lot...they'd take the parcel you'd never see it again !....they'd probably also manage to get into your home for you if no key too :-D......
