You do wonder sometimes if the visa process is just a box ticking exercise for some administrators. They look at their criteria and ignore the supporting paperwork or reason for wanting to come to this country. What happened to commonsense and empathy especially when the 'exceptions' can be checked?

Back in June a Brazilian who became pregnant in the UK was initially refused an extent ion on her visa. Her reasons for wanting it were to follow the UK medical advice to pregnant women regarding contracting the Zika virus. (She was eventually given the extension until after her baby was born)

In our local on-line paper was a report that a young child of immigrant parents had been killed in a road traffic incident. Her parents wanted other close members of family to attend the funeral. It was put off for months while they, the local community and their MP fought the initial refusal.

A sad case, Rollo.

However, what kind of visa is being mentioned? The article is vague but it sounds to me as though she has applied for permanent residency.

If that is the case, she could try for a tourist/holiday visa if she hasn't already.

Also, what about going down the teacher exchange route?

I would try everything in my power if I were in a situation like that.

There are bound to be lawyers, human rights groups etc who can think how to get around the rules in such circumstances.

"I'm out on the border
I thought this was a private line
Don't you tell me 'bout your law and order
I'm try'n' to change this water to wine

Never mind your name, just give us your number, mm
Never mind your face, just show us your card, mm
And we wanna know whose wing are you under
You better step to the right or we can make it hard "
