Just to be clear ............

I was not defending the 2, nor do I think they should be treated the same as William or Harry.

I think Charles made the right decision ........ and, if I remember correctly, the Queen did hand over many such decisions to him some years ago, and that is when he took away the security detail from the young women.

I just don't understand how everyone from the media down to Joe Blow in the street feels they have the right to criticise two young women for everything from their choice in clothes to their choice in young men or in an inability to find employment. They did both manage to get university degrees.

How many other young women have got degrees, found it difficult to find employment that they enjoyed, and made terrible choices in clothes????

Thine and mine!!!

I admire them because they seem to have been able to maintain their self esteem in the face of continued criticism on all levels. That must have been terribly hard!

I also understand that they have carried out some royal duties on behalf of their grandmother in recent months.

But note that it is not THEM asking for the money, duties or apartments .......... it is their father.

I see what you mean, Rollo, about the UK being undemocratic.

A true democracy always takes account of minorities, however, I can see that it's going to be a struggle in the Brexit case even though the minority almost reached half of the votes cast (48).

However, I can't think of a country that reflects a TRUE democracy so we do the best with what is there. The die is cast so let's hope T May makes a good fist of it.

Yes, why don't we relate EVERY thread to Brexit!!!!!!!
..Whispers... I believe Rollo thinks everyone but him voted Brexit.
It would be a shame to disabuse him.

Edit: I agree with Sue. :-D :-D :-D :-D

I always thought that the Restoration was a a bad idea and so it was with James III wjo was deposed. The Commons chose to replace him with a Dutchman William of Orange who demanded all sorts of royal prerogatives.

Thanks to the Commons not guarding the sov. of parliament the British taxpayer has been funding the Royal party ever since. Given current events with the PM not sure if she is also the monarch nothing much has changed.

1688 the glorious capitulation.

The referendum if it told us one thing only it was that people have noticed that the UK is profoundly undemocratic. Sadly handing over power to UKIP the brexiters and royral prerogative will not improve matters. Aaron Banks and co are planning a carve up of UK assets on the same lines as P Green and BHS.

enjoy

oh Andrew' daughters. Given that Charles is of less use than a (tasty) chocolate teapot kettle calling the saucepan black.

One of the Andrews Sisters is getting married next year? Blimey, she must be getting on a bit.

Indeed but then I am not asking for their levels of errrr.....royalty to be in a par with William and Harry, nor asking for the reinstatement of £500,000 per annum for security details which they lost a couple of years ago. This in addition for paying for their time from the public purse.

I can't imagine that you'd expect criticism from complete strangers though? I wouldn't have thought it would, outside the family, be anyone else's business, and so long as they're spending their own money it must surely be the same for these two young ladies?!

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 25 Oct 2016 14:48

Sylvia, If my children were that useless then yes I would expect criticism of them.

Luckily they are confident, skilled and useful members of the different societies they live in.

They have also worked very hard to achieve what they have materially and the respect they have earned, not something that can be attributed to the two princesses!

I think you'll find the Queen asked Charles to make the decision as she's handing more and more duties to Charles. This is so he'll hit the ground running so to speak when he takes over. I have no problem with the direct line of accession, I do though have a problem with the girls being on the payroll.
